We stayed here twice – one night at the beginning and one night at the end of a week's hiking in the Douro Valley (first night room 5, the last night room 6). The hotel is modern and tasteful. The rooms are quite small. It is not possible to have even two cabin trolleys open on the floor. One could just about fit under the table – there was no room for the other one. But the rooms are very tasteful and the balconies are great with nice balcony furniture. The balconies vary in size – our second room (room 6) probably had the smallest of them all, but it was still large enough for the furniture and the pretty view is the same. There is a fridge but no electric kettle or other ways to make a cup of coffee. No tissues either. The bathroom in room 5 was nice with a large modern multi-function shower and even a view from the shower through the room and over the mountains! In room 6 the bathroom had a bathtub rather than the shower unit – it was a good deep bathtub, but if given a choice, we prefer the shower. Nice big towels (always a plus). Breakfast was nice. We arrived in Pinhão by train and had been advised to take a taxi. As it was less than a kilometre to walk to the hotel we didn't take a taxi … and regretted it bitterly as it is steep upwards and on many stairs. No problem without luggage, but with the suitcases it was a struggle! Totally our own fault – just to warn others not to be as silly … :-) If the rooms had been a little bigger and if there had been an electric kettle, I would have given 5 stars. As it was, I give 4. But we enjoyed our two short stays and would not hesitate to come back.

lovely views except that my room was directly across from elevator, had a view of a huge electricity tower just outside the window, had a loudly beeping non working phone and reception staff who didn't care and had zero interest in fixing or replacing it. then a couple with a baby and loudly yapping dog were placed next to my room. the dog started to yap at 6 40 am, the couple apparently continued to sleep, and i had to leave my room and find a quiet place in a very small space. would NOT book here again. the good things are the small pool, which is kept clean, the views so long as you are not in Rooms 9 or 10, and the restaurant, which serves adequate if limited dinner meals. And Daniella is a wonderful staffer and deserves to be part of a more professional and more helpful team.

The hotel is very well located and has stunning views from the terraces. Our room was street side but quiet. The half board program was excellent. Dinner included couvert, wine, salad or soup, main and dessert. Excellent! Breakfast was typical but everything was fresh and plenty to choose from. We did not need air conditioning and were fine with the window ajar. The Wi-Fi was the only drawback as it tended to be spotty.

We enjoyed our time at this hotel but advise that its best suited to travellers who have a car. Its not very close to anything else so requires a walk or drive into the next town of Regua, on the opposite river bank and over a bridge. If you're having the hotel breakfast or dinner its less of a problem. Rooms have good views of the river, Regua and vineyards. They aren't amazing, or large but are modern, clean and have the amenities most travellers require. The hotel has a relaxed vibe and staff are friendly and helpful. There's a terrace with lounges on the level where the outdoor spa, indoor pool and sauna are located. (swimming caps for the pool are mandatory and can be purchased) , which all makes for a pleasant afternoon relaxing after wine tasting or cruising the Douro river. Staff happily deliver drinks to the spa and terrace. We ate dinner once at the restaurant and enjoyed it very much. On our second night we even returned to have the chocolate desert again! Breakfast was good too. The restaurant has a spacious terrace with river views which makes it a pleasure to sit outdoors there. The parking garage, however, is a challenge, and most guests park on the street. Overall, we had a great time here.

The hotel is a new and a great infrastructure. The spa, with views of the magnificent outdoor landscape, is ideal for relaxing at the end of the afternoon after a day of tours in the area. The environment is familiar and staff is of great sympathy and availability. I personally have some food restrictions that have always been readily addressed. At the time electric car loaders were being replaced. It is recommended to confirm whether they are already in operation, if necessary.

In a difficult area in the middle of a backward, with a wonderful view of the Douro, this Agroturismo Hotel was born from a farm and a Adega, Val Moreira, which the group had purchased at the time. After a few rooms experience, it was the wide range of rooms, all with a wonderful view of the Douro, but with growth it brought two problems, stairs and difficulty of parking. We had booked three nights at this hotel but cut the trip short and just stayed for two. Firstly the location is poor - I know I am contradicting some earlier reviews but this is as we saw it. We thought we were in the Douro Valley area, we were just on the edge. Alijo is a town that seemed to have moved on from the wine business, a lot of buildings were fairly new and not in keeping with elsewhere. The outlook from the hotel is over a school which is noisy at times and a park area. One wonders whether vineyards were taken up to build these. The hotel itself is a handsome building with a great terrace and a (not very clean) pool in its grounds. There does not appear to be any connection with Baron Forrester, strange choice of name for it. There has been some refurbishment, there was a great bar and most of the public rooms were great. Our bedroom was good with a Juliet balcony overlooking the terrace (and the school, one morning they had a VERY loud event starting at 7.30am, that was the last straw for my husband) however the bathroom was dingy, with a gruesome shower curtain and mould around the edges of the bath. In the room there was no safe, tea/coffee making facilities, no fridge let alone a minibar - just the space for it?! Old fashioned hair dryer in the bathroom. Air conditioning wouldn't be switched on 'until Monday' despite it being 30 deg. This was the fourth Pousada we had stayed in on this trip and was a big disappointment. We had driven through the Douro Alto on the Tua road to get there and had high hopes as to what it would be like. We did discover it is 'franchised' to Pestana rather than owned and run by them. We had dinner there the first time which was not good, tasteless under seasoned lump of veal for me, undercooked rabbit for my husband. Breakfast was fine and lunch on the terrace very nice. Staff generally were great though sometimes hard to find. We couldn't face dining there a second night and had scoped out places in the town which looked a bit basic... to be told that chef had Covid and the restaurant was closed. Possibly because of that they did not charge us for the last night when we checked out in the morning. Husband was told the printer was u/s so they couldn't print off the receipt. You couldn't make it up...
