a&o Hamburg City

Hamburg|0.29km from Berliner Tor
Stayed in a single room, then switched to a 6 man dorm on the final night as it was Sunday and was expecting it to be very quiet. The single rooms are spartan and there is not even a chair, just some little stuffed stool. The issue in Hamburg is that accomdation is expensive in the city. For the same money, you could stay at a very nice 3 star hotel in many European cities! The 6 man dorm seemed quiet and ok, and then I noticed the issues. There were beer stains on the floor that acted as adhesive for my shoes. Crumbs and discarded sweet rappers in and around the bed. I had the room to myself so didn't complain. Settled for a decent night's rest. That's when someone came in at midnight (Sunday) and loudly stomped around, turning on all of the lights. They then took a shower and took their merry time settling into bed... For the price the rooms are not up to scratch. However, there aren't many ”cheaper” alternatives in Hamburg and the hostel (that charges hotel prices) know this. The check-in service was tedious and there's a queue at check in time. When I switched rooms to the 6 man dorm I said I wanted an early checkin to the that room if possible, and on the quiet side of the building (non motorway). They said no problem. Then, when I went to the room, it was of course on the noisy side. Went back and had to wait a couple hours longer before I could access the quieter room that I had asked for. The customer service is not great. They'll ask for your booking number even after you tell them your name. I did not feel like digging around for the number so I said my name and they searched for it (much to their distain probably).

Mac City Hostel

I chose to book one night at this hostel because of the cheap fees it offered...which kind of backfired. This hostel felt uncomfortable and badly arranged. The small common hall felt suffocating and narrow. The place had, I suspect, a problem with keeping the bed linens clean, which had never occurred to me in any of the hostels where I had been staying. Not only there is an unappealing cart loaded with dirty sheets in plain sight, but I'm pretty sure about the presence of bugs as of the time of my stay. Besides, at a point I had to use a pc to fix an urgent problem with my mobile phone. I was answered that the access to the pc was precluded to the customers and nothing could be done. I resolved my problem by walking to another hostel, which looked considerably better kept, did have an internet room, and the staff of which proved kind and helpful. The area is a ten-minute walk from the central station and looks quite seedy. You don't want to ruin your stay in beautiful Hamburg by staying at this place - good news is, it hardly gets worse than that.
Premier Inn Hamburg City Klostertor

As another reviewer has said, you know what you are getting with Premier inns. This is in a practical location close to S-Bahn stations and not that far away from the Alster lake and (if you are looking for places to eat) the Lange Reihe. Rooms are clean and comfortable (not much storage). We didn't bother with breakfast as there is a nice bakery a short walk away where you can get coffee and a pastry (though it's not open on a Saturday). We made use of the bar, although it can be a bit hit and miss about whether anyone is around to serve.

Everything was fine. Before I checked out on the last day, I was in the bathroom. Suddenly, I heard the cleaning staff didn’t press the doorbell and came in without knocking the door. It was almost..., I thought about cleaning and it was very hard. Just put a few euros as a tip. Once this happens, the direct consumption is taken away, which is really almost

Super service, only the drinking machines were cold/heat had problems, but this may be because not so many guests were expected. There could still be work on it. The employees have been curved to meet the guest. Praise the brave rank. If we travel back to Hamburg, we will check in back to this hotel. Oh, what to mention: Super connection to S1 and U3, which drive in all directions

The hotel is one stop from the train station, but the subway is very close. The rooms are small, but the facilities are good, the hotel service is good, overall the price is high
