The Highlander Hotel
4.3/599 Reviews
The Highlander truly is a hidden gem! The owner, Angela, has so much passion and is carrying out her vision to revive this hidden treasure in rural Iowa. Service is friendly and responsive, you will never get a no from any of them whether it’s a request for something in a room or helping to carry something to your car. The food is good, the pool and outdoor courtyard are unique and special to this experience! We even got a sneak preview of the supper club dining room and bar that are expected to open this October! So much more fun to be had with the arcade and original sunken bar (that her husband tirelessly rebuilt from near ruin). So much detail, original beamed ceilings all complete with eclectic furniture and decorations that add to your overall experience. This is not your typical rural motel or big name stay. Unique place with all the comforts of home and so much more, in a fun welcoming setting! Well done Angela and team!
Graduate Iowa City

As the name suggests, the name of the hotel means that their waiters are all college students. The front desk MM is really beautiful! The hotel's good value for money is much cheaper than a hotel next to it. In fact, the room is very good, the decoration style is typical American style, the big bed is very comfortable to sleep, but the room is a bit alien, but it does not affect anything, the hot water in the bathroom is very good. Can be solved! The hotel is not far from the city center, the old-fashioned style, but it is raining, it is impossible to play ~ Idaho State University is nearby, the scale is not small, it is also very good. It is a tornado when the check-in, so play in this area It is necessary to pay attention to the weather forecast. The most accurate is the forecast of the National Weather Service (NWS), avoiding extreme weather damage such as tornadoes!
Hyatt Place Iowa City Downtown

Great location! The hotel is new and kept up. The breakfast ran out of coffee and not refilled by the time we made it down, not enough people working in the breakfast area, but they were helpful. When my daughter opened the couch to sleep on, there were crumbs from previous guest. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, the amenities - pool and exercise room- were great to have and clean!
Hilton Garden Inn Iowa City Downtown University

We were on a road trip and stayed at three different hotels. This one was the best by far and it was also a third of the cost of the other two. Clean, comfortable, great location and the food from Vue was fabulous! It’s hard to find a hotel with room service these days. It was a nice treat. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.
Travelodge by Wyndham Iowa City

Check in in Iowa City, not in the city center, but east of the city. As long as there is a car, there is no problem and parking is convenient. The rooms are large, with good sanitation and complete facilities. The surroundings are quiet and conducive to sleep. Breakfast is not rich, egg bread jam juice milk coffee, no problem with fullness.
Hampton Inn Iowa City/University Area

The hotel is quiet, the rooms are large and the sanitation is very good. There is a Chinese restaurant for dinner, and there is a refrigerator and microwave in the room. 2 km walk from the University of Iowa. Parking is free and convenient!
