We were pleasantly surprised by this property. We stayed for one night with our small dog and this hotel is very pet friendly and there are a variety of fast food restaurants and gas stations in the immediate area. The room was comfortable and clean, and featured both a microwave and mini fridge, which came in handy and the free breakfast featured a variety of both hot and cold options. The 24-hour coffee station was a nice feature too. The only real issue we encountered was that it was really easy to hear our neighbors when they're talking in their rooms and there is a lot of road noise because there are busy streets nearby. I would suggest you bring your noise cancelling headphones or make use of the heating/cooling system to help cover the noise if you're not a heavy sleeper. The beds are super comfy and if the noise doesn't bother you, you'll wake up refreshed. For such a pet friendly hotel at a budget price, I'm surprised at how clean the property is throughout. They've got a great team who seems to care about what they do. The bathroom lighting was great for those of us who wear makeup! If you're staying more than one night, you will need fresh towels every day because there isn't really any place to hang them in between use. But the fixtures are modern and clean and the water pressure was just fine. I would stay here again if I were driving through on a road trip and needed a spot to crash for a day or two.

I have stayed with ESA in several locations and enjoyed my stay. At this location, I felt that my privacy was violated and I was not treated respectfully as a customer. I was charged a $100 deposit at check in that was not returned to me and my bank debit card was not accepted for payment. I was asked to pay cash throughout my stay. The room had carpet and laminate flooring damage at check in. People entered my room while I was away and management reported to me that my room was not clean to their standards.I ended my stay early as I was uncomfortable extending my stay there. I left the room clean. I will not visit this location in the future and I would not recommend to other travelers.

I chose this property over the newer one near the airport because of the great and better reviews it received here on TripAdvisor. Although in a semi-industrial area I was pleasantly surprised that the grounds were very nice and lush and I felt safe. The front desk personnel were friendly and answered my numerous questions with a smile. I got a two queen bed room on the 4th floor. Everything was clean (there were some dust bunnies and an out of reach water bottle under one of the beds of which I notified the housekeeping staff as I was leaving). It was just a few blocks off of I-99 and there were several eating options available nearby. There is also a Costco three blocks away. I ordered dinner take out from the nearby La Imperial Taqueria - it was great. There is a nice indoor pool, an exercise room and an in house bar and restaurant where they served full service breakfast which I enjoyed before I left (not complimentary - but there were several delicious options). When my travels take me this way again I will choose to stay here. Thank you for your hospitality!!

Booked through Hotwire for an overnight travel stop and got a really low price. The TA reviews had me worried BUT my stay was just fine. There was a welcoming staff in the nice lobby, secure parking, and a comfortable bed. The room could use deep cleaning, paint, and replacement of some plumbing fixtures but there were no bugs. The blankets are skimpy — I pulled the one off the 2nd bed. My big tip to getting a good night’s sleep at hotels is: BRING YOUR OWN PILLOW. This is not a resort get-away but it works as a safe place to overnight.

On November 13, 2019, I was literally kicked out of the Sleep Inn & Suites! The Manager knocked on my door and said I stained a towel and would have to come down to the desk and leave a deposit. I said “fine”. She said, “ right now” and attempted to barge into my room. So much for the right of quiet enjoyment. I went down to the front desk and asked to see the charge for the towel. She gave me the list, I looked at it, put the list back on the desk, and gave her my credit card. Then, she threw my card on the floor and told me to get out! I said “ you are kicking me out?” She said yes. I packed up my stuff and left. She did this in front of other guests at the front desk. Is this how they treat Diamond Members?! I stayed in Choice Hotels over 140 nights during the past 12 months. She kicked me out for staining a towel, which can be washed, and which I gave her my card for deposit and she refused it. I then called Corporate Customer Relations and am waiting to see how they are going to resolve this matter. Meanwhile, DO NOT stay at the Sleep Inn & Suites on Knudsen Ave in Bakersfield, CA, unless you want your room barged into and treated like a second class citizen.
