VIP Executive Zurique Hotel

Baixa Lisbon|1.96km from Estatua do Marques de Pombal
My recent stay at the VIP Executive Zurique Hotel was acceptable. This hotel has so much potential, and some more attention in a few areas would go a long way in transforming this property to one of a higher quality. The service was excellent. Employees were all compassionate and professional. In addition, the food offered in the hotel’s restaurant was of high quality. Prices at the property were fair. From a value point of view, I expected a bit more. I paid €439 for my eight-day stay. In addition, dinner was expensive and extremely limited. More specifically, in terms of amenities, the hotel boasts a beautiful outdoor pool area. Unfortunately, it was often overcrowded and littered with garbage. More attention to detail would remedy these issues. Wifi was available, but weak in certain parts of the hotel. A bar is located in the lobby, but opens late and closes early in the evening, making it inaccessible. The gym was closed during my time here. That was also unfortunate, as images and descriptions on websites were misleading. I stayed in an Executive Single Room during my week here. The room itself was contemporary and updated, however, housekeeping was inconsistent. Some days, my room was cleaned impeccably, others, housekeeping was abysmal or nonexistent. Towels oftentimes had rips or stains on them. The curtains had small rips and were stained. In addition, one of the blankets was stained. The provided toiletries were good. The bed itself was comfortable, but the pillows were very poor quality. The hotel did not specially publicize a smoking policy. Oftentimes, the corridors reeked of smoke. Cigarettes littered the pool deck and common areas in the hotel. Staff worked hard to keep surfaces in the lobby disinfected, however, their efforts were undermined by thousands of guests utilizing these areas. I do believe the hotel is understaffed. The hotel would benefit from having maintenance and housekeeping readily available and on call for assistance. When I necessitated maintenance, I was told I would have to wait for the following morning when the technician would be available. While the rooms were updated and contemporary, the bathrooms were rundown. The hotel shows it’s apparent age on the exterior, and in the elevators. Some surfaces were cracked and not functional. I experienced difficulties in the elevators. They stopped working at times, leaving me stuck. Again, better maintenance would remedy these concerns. The location of the hotel is a positive. It is surrounded by transit options that provide direct links to cities all across the country. This is ideal for all visitors. Overall, the hotel served it’s purpose. I do believe the hotel is ill equipped to handle the high volume of guests that stay here. Housekeeping is marginal, and must be improved. Maintenance needs to pay closer attention to the aging property. Finally, security here is lacking. I have some concerns as it pertains to safety. Front desk staff has no control over people

H10 Duque de Loule

My husband and I stayed four nights, Aug 31-September 4. Originally (preCovid) we had booked the sister H10 property, The One Palacio da Anunciada. We had been very excited to stay at The One but they contacted us just prior to our visit notifying us that they couldn't accommodate us due to inspections. They moved our booking to the Duque de Louie. It's farther away, does not have a swimming pool and didn't seem like the same ”level” of accommodation, but we decided to let it go and not worry about it since H10 had been kind enough to keep our reservation over two years during Covid. I'm thrilled we stayed here. The service could not have been more attentive! Antonio, the very kind door man, was wonderful. He assessed our plan as we headed out one day and insisted we change our plans. He knows what he is talking about! This hotel got all of the details right! Brought us scrumptious desserts on our first night and included delicious breakfasts. At first I thought they were treating us especially kind because of the substitution of properties, but standing back, I noticed they treated each and every person with patience and helpfulness. The rooftop bar is not to be missed with views over Lisbon to the Tagus. We happily got our steps in! This was a very pleasant surprise

We as a family of four have just returned from a trip to Lisbon staying at the Dom Carlos Park. We were greeted by two receptionists (a young lady and young gentleman) - I didn't catch their names so please forgive me - who were extremely helpful in giving us information on attractions in the city and telling us where the tour buses were located. The hotel itself is just located off the Praca Marques de Pombal where there is a Metro station. We ourselves did not use the Metro - we purchased a three day hop on hop off bus ticket (€48 per person) which also included a hop on hop off boat ride (this is the Gray Line Sightseeing bus tour. The buses pull in just facing the statue. There are a couple of different lines to explore and there is a ticket desk located just beside where the buses pull in. We also used taxis to get around now and again which were not expensive - the taxi to and from the airport cost about €13. The hotel itself is clean. Rooms are comfy - very comfy pillows and beds. There is a minibar in the room and in the bathroom there is a hairdryer. However if you have very long hair the hairdryer heats up quickly and turns itself off which is a bit annoying. Shower pressure is fine no problem and there is a bath. A glass bottle of water is left in the room but is not free - I think the cost was €2.50 which we found out when we left back our keys. There was construction going on right next to the hotel - there are apartments being built - but the noise did not bother us. Just beside reception is the dining room. Breakfast is buffet style with a selection of breds, croissants, pastries. Cheese and meats and fruits (pinapple or orange in small glasses) are also set out. Orange juice and apple juice and cranberry juice are all available and were all fine. There are sausages, that for me tasted of frankfurters, and bacon and scrambled eggs which were okay. I myself do like poached eggs but did not see anyone requesting them. There is also coffee available from hot coffee pot with hot milk separate and hot water pot with tea bags available, hot chocolate. There were staff going around who were pleasant and approchable to everyone. Breakfast is served from 7:15 to 11:30am. Later on in the dining area is a self-service bar where the charge for a glass of wine etc is put on your bill at the end. There is also coffee tea available. There is a small lounge area just opposite to the dining room. There are two lifts also located beside reception which really only fit two people. It states four in the lift itself. There are toilets located up a stairs to the right of reception. On arrival to the hotel there is no ramp there are steps I think about five or so to climb. There is a small green area just in front of the hotel which is pretty. We as a family really enjoyed our stay in lisbon and tried to do and see as much as we could in our week. We will definitely return as we were unable to visit Sintra which is definitely worth a visit or Cascai

The location is very good, just above Liberty Avenue, parking is 15 euros a night. The room is small, but the bed is comfortable. There are many choices for breakfast, and the fruit is very fresh. The hotel is on Liberty Avenue, and there is a subway station nearby, so the transportation is convenient. Friends who like shopping can go down Liberty Avenue to browse various famous brand stores, and walk to the old tourist area in about 10 minutes.

Most of the reviews have some truth. The rooms look nothing like the pictures, and are just standard hotel rooms. They do not look recently refurbished, with cracked tiles and a warped door in the bathroom. The beds and pillows were very comfortable though. The rooms have a lot of street noise, even with the windows closed. The breakfast was very poor, with cold, rubbery eggs, poor cereal choices, etc. The hotel needs to read the reviews and act on them. So many people in our group said the same thing. Be warned, they do not supply milk in the bedroom, and then charged me for it! I was astonished. The man at reception literally shrugged his shoulders at me when I queried it. He might be the one referred to in another review. He was so rude. We did not get our upgrade to superior for the 3 nights we stayed, which I was happy to pay for, and had been trying to organise for 4 months. They did not reply to my 3 emails, including using their pro forma on the website. We had moved hotel day by day over 10 days, and I was looking for a little luxury. I got comfort, but not luxury. Shame.

Room was clean, have both towels and hand towels, changed every day with clean ones. Pillows were good. To use room safe must pay deposit plus 2 euros/day. Has room phone but no phone directory, so unable to phone housekeeping or reception. Had to go down to reception to complain about the choked sink (wash basin): Sink choked, flowing very slowly, waste water accumulated took long time to drain away. However nothing done. Complained in the morning and in the afternoon about the choked sink and unable to use the room phone since no directory. Reception staff in the afternoon did not take note about the choked sink. He said hotel does not give housekeeping phone number to guests. I said that I want to complain to the manager. He said that he had passed on many complaints to his manager, though his manager said “yes, yes” but he saw no change, including the fact that room phone has no directory to call reception or housekeeping. (When we returned 11 days later, there was still no phone directory in our hotel room.) The following morning I told the reception staff that the sink was still choked. He was surprised and he went to our room to see the sink. After seeing that the sink was choked, he assured me that the sink would be cleared. Sure enough, when we returned to the hotel in the evening, the c hoked sink was cleared. Has to climb 6 steps to reach lift/elevator. This can be a problem for older folks with heavy luggage. On our return stay, the room was much smaller. Could not close door of shower room when standing in front of wash basin. Mini fridge did not work and none available for replacement. Toiletry tray in shower area was missing. Not enough space to stand for showering, making it impossible to have a proper shower. Holder for shower nozzle too loose, could not stay in position except when hose was pressed against the wall.
