The Cuillan Hills Hotel is a memorable experience. The view of the bay is intimate and awesome at the same time, and the service is warm and fast. A wood burning fire was always going in the beautiful library and the food was exceptional. I would recommend the dinner package, as it was a good value - and absolutely delicious! Portree doesn't have a lot going on, so the hotel was perfect for relaxing, reading, playing a game and enjoying the view and a brisk walk. It's like a step back in time, with luxury. As for rooms, I would recommend 42-45, with gorgeous sea views, comfortable sitting area, and a bathroom like a spa. My ONLY complaint is the hair dryer...! You have to hold a button to keep it activated, so if you use any styling product or tools, it becomes quite frustrating!

As usual a lovely reliable place to stay, staff are always friendly and can’t do enough to help. Had food in the restaurant last night and it was great - table of 12 and all the food came quickly and was piping hot. Couldn’t ask for better. See you folks in April

A place to sleep. I booked this hotel because it mentioned it had on site parking. Technically it did but not enough for all of the guests. Had a known that most of the parking in Portree was easily handled by parking in the public car park, I would have booked elsewhere. The beds weren’t terribly comfortable and we had a very small room. No view either as ours was in the back. It was clean and had everything we needed and the location was perfect.

The environment is beautiful, located by the lake, the service is first-class, the hotel is very cost-effective, the Scottish sister-in-law in the restaurant can tell jokes, the cooking skills are first-class, pure Scottish cuisine, and the main dish is recommended for the main dish, Scotch lamb shank.

Lost one star for the appalling first impression delivered by our very surly initial reception (Erica), but regained it through the exceptionally tasty breakfast ( best eggs ever — don’t put any sauce on them) and efficient, personable service from all other staff. If you do not need luxury and just want the basics and a safe place to sleep, you'll be fine at Jurriaan's place. It is small and each room is down the same hallway. All the very basic-ness aside, Jurriaan was very nice, kind and accommodating. I Whatsapp'd him my preferred breakfast juice (got the opposite each day) and time and he rolled his cart down with my selections. You bring your tray inside, dine, and then back on the cart later.
