When visiting Harbin, be sure to check out the Provincial Museum

The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum, originally established as the East Province Cultural Relics Research Society Exhibition Hall on June 12, 1923, has undergone several name changes. In 1953, it was renamed the Songjiang Provincial Museum, and in 1954, with the incorporation of Songjiang Province into Heilongjiang Province, the Songjiang Provincial Museum merged with the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum Preparatory Office to form the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum, which has been in use ever since. The museum currently holds over 630,000 items in its collection, including four major series: history, nature, art, and documents, spanning 52 categories. Among them, the museum's national treasures include the Jurchen Dynasty bronze seated dragon, Jurchen Dynasty landscape and figure story mirrors; natural collections include Cretaceous duck-billed dinosaur skeleton fossils, Pleistocene woolly rhinoceros skeleton fossils, mammoth bone fossils, and Northeast China bison skeleton fossils; the museum also houses a large number of modern and contemporary art works, including paintings and calligraphy by Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, Pan Tianshou, as well as Deng Sanmu's calligraphy and seal carving, and Yu Zhixue's ice and snow landscape paintings.
