Wufengxi Ancient Town in Jintang, Sichuan | Half mountain and river, half city, five ancient streets, guild halls and temples, He Lin

Wufengxi Ancient Town is located on the bank of the Tuojiang River in Jintang County, Chengdu, 48 kilometers away from Chengdu. It is located in the middle of the Longquan Mountain Range. Because the mountain peaks resemble phoenixes, and the highest peaks are five, hence the name. Wufengxi was already an important wharf on the upper reaches of the Tuojiang River during the Han and Tang Dynasties. By the middle of the Qing Dynasty, there were four ferry crossings, Zhalu Crossing, Mingyang Crossing, Jinniu Crossing, and Luoba Crossing, continuously transporting grains and handicrafts from western Sichuan to Chongqing, and then transporting salt, fruits and foreign goods from Chongqing, Yibin, and Luzhou, and then transported to Chengdu 50 kilometers away for sale through mountain roads. Due to the special terrain, the ancient town of Wufengxi was built along the slope, uneven, and well-arranged. Therefore, it is known as 'half mountain and river, half city', enjoying tranquility and comfort between mountains and rivers. The ancient town has five ancient streets named Jin Feng, Qing Feng, Yu Feng, Bai Feng, and Xiao Feng. To this day, it still retains the Guansheng Palace of Shaanxi Guild Hall, Nanhua Palace of Guangdong Guild Hall, Wanshou Palace of Jiangxi Guild Hall, and Yuwang Palace of Huguang Guild Hall, as well as Wangye Temple, Huoshen Temple and other temples built by immigrants from other provinces in the early Qing Dynasty. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, due to famine, plague, and war, the population of Sichuan drastically reduced. During the Kangxi period, immigrants from Jiangxi, Fujian, Lianghu, and Liangguang moved to Sichuan one after another, farming, building houses, buying land for business, and multiplying. Therefore, a unique immigrant culture was formed here. Wufengxi Ancient Town is the hometown of Mr. He Lin, a master of Neo-Confucianism in China, known as the 'Father of Eastern Hegel'. He Lin is a famous philosopher, historian of philosophy, Hegel research expert, translator, and educator in China; he is the founder of 'New Neo-Confucianism' and one of the representative figures of contemporary Neo-Confucianism. 📍Detailed address: Wufengxi Ancient Town: Xiaofeng Street, Jintang County, Chengdu, Sichuan Province Tickets: Free admission
