THE ALAMO-SAN ANTONIO

I have a chance to visit this beautiful historical place during my business trip. My client was kind enough to bring me around. She brought me to this place. The Alamo Mission (Spanish: Misión de lamo), commonly called the Alamo and originally known as Misión San Antonio de Valero, is a historic Spanish mission and fort complex founded in the 18th century by Roman Catholic missionaries in what is now San Antonio, Texas, United States of America. It was the site of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836, where American folk heroes James Bowie and Davy Crockett died. Today it is a museum in the Alamo Plaza Historic District and part of the San Antonio Mission World Heritage Site. This historic district was one of the early Spanish missions in Texas, built for the education of local American Indians after their conversion to Christianity. The mission was secularized in 1793 and later abandoned. Ten years later, it became the fortress that housed the San Carlos de Parras military unit's Second Flying Company, which probably gave the mission its name Alamo. During the Texas Revolution, Mexican General Martín Perfecto de Cos surrendered the fort to the Texan Army in December 1835, following the Siege of Béxar. A small number of Texans then occupied the compound for several months. Its defenders were annihilated at the Battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836. When the Mexican Army withdrew from Texas a few months later, they tore down many of the Alamo's walls and burned several buildings. Over the next five years, the Alamo was regularly used to garrison soldiers, both Texas and Mexico, but was eventually abandoned. In 1849, several years after Texas was annexed to the United States, the US Army began leasing the facility for use as a quartermaster depot, before returning to abandon missions in 1876 after nearby Fort Sam Houston was founded. The Alamo Chapel was sold to the state of Texas, which toured occasionally but made no attempt to restore it. The remaining buildings were sold to trading companies that operated them as wholesale grocery stores. #businesstrip #usatravel #texas #america #historical
