More to Split than the Old Town!

Croatia is an absolutely stunning coastal country that hugs the eastern border of Adriatic sea. The long and narrow country is blessed with an abundance of beautiful islands, peninsulas, inlets and other geological features all along it's coast with numerous world famous destinations such as Dubrovnik, Split and Pula. Consequently, it is on everyone's radar who wants to experience something other than the typical coastal resort towns of Spain, Greece, Italy or Turkey, however, all of these nations have left their marks on Croatia in one way or the other. An example is the popular snack 'Burek' - a flakey filo pastry filled with meats, cheese or spinach - found at every bakery in the country, made its way to Croatia through the ottomans or notably Split being home to Diocletian's palace. Split! Busy bustling historic old town with beautifully preserved buildings and character from Diocletian's Palace. At the front, a beautifully palm tree lined water front lined with restaurants, cafés, local craft market and plenty of benches to enjoy a break from the exploration. Now, once you've done the historical sights and are ready to escape the crowds, I'd recommend spending the day doing a long walk coastal around the Park Suma Marjan to discover some stunning hidden beaches with huge towering cliff of the peninsula as backdrop. it's a great walk through the green park filled with mostly locals and plenty of spots to dump your bags and take a dip in the Sea. Trust me you'll enjoy the escape as you admire the sea, the landscape and the islands in the distance. My top spots along this walk are: Sustipan - View of Split and the coast. Obojena/Jezinac Beach - Small beach just at the end of town. Ivan Mestrovic museum - Art museum with impressive views Kasjuni Beach - The most beautiful beach along this walk - don't skip this one. Kupaliste Bene - Deep inside Park Suma Marjan. Well shades by trees and a local cafe. Go and enjoy your trip to SPLIT.
