A true portrayal of clan living together

The ancient architectural complex of Ya'an Village is located in Ya'an Village, Chikan Town, Yiwu City, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province. The entire complex was built by three generations of Chen Qiwen and Chen Songyao, covering a total area of about 5,082 square meters and a construction area of about 8,527 square meters, spanning from the early years of the Qianlong period to the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. The ancient architectural complex of Ya'an Village was built in the fifth year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1800), with the Rong'an Hall as the core, distributed from west to east, facing east. Rong'an Hall is at the front, facing a square, with exquisite materials used for construction. It consists of a gate hall, main hall, hall building, left and right wing rooms, and south and north double wings, forming five routes and six courtyards, totaling 59 rooms; Yi'an Hall is located behind Rong'an Hall and is an 18-room quadrangle courtyard; Xulun Hall, the Chen family ancestral hall, is the venue for the Chen family to hold sacrificial ceremonies. Rong'an Hall is used for weddings and other celebrations, while Yi'an Hall is used for funerals within the clan. Xulun Hall is the ancestral hall, with an external Ming Hall in front of it. The descendants of the Chen family live in separate rooms, with a complete functional system. The entire architectural complex is grand in scale, exquisitely carved, and well-preserved, with significant historical, scientific, and artistic value. It is a true reflection of clan living together under the ancient patriarchal system and has typical representative significance for studying the society, politics, economy, and folk culture of the Jiangnan region during the middle and late Qing Dynasty.
