Luoxia Valley is the perfect place to see the red earth 红土 (Dongchuang Red Land) near Kunming. Drive 3 hours from Kunming to reach this beautiful destination. A car can be arranged for about 800rmb from the city. Stay at a guesthouse in the valley for added convenience. There’s a large viewing platform to view the red land from and the perfect spot to watch the sunrise. If conditions are right you are in store for a spectacular show. Despite being a part of the scenic area, its prosperity has nothing to do with me

One of the most beautiful spots in Dongchuan Red Land is Luoxiagou, and the most beautiful landscape of Luoxiagou is a highland that suddenly rises from the deep valley, with red soil terraces and villages on top, representing the most beautiful combination of culture and nature. However, it must be said that this village on the highland, named Datunzi, is somewhat 'unlucky.' It has become a part of the scenic area, yet the area's prosperity is unrelated to it: the overall view from above is beautiful, but once you enter, there is nothing to see. Without the need to visit the village, tourism cannot develop, and only curious self-driving tourists like us are willing to explore. In the end, it is the aerial drone footage that captures the most beautiful views. 🌹For those as curious as us Datunzi Village is 5.5 kilometers away from the Luoxiagou scenic area, the village is isolated, with no restaurants or accommodations, living a life of its own. Datunzi Village is surrounded by cliffs and deep valleys on three sides, relying on nothing but a single road that connects it to the outside world. The road is open but winding and narrow, making it very difficult to pass each other, and a slight mistake could lead to a fall down the mountain. The red soil land is highly dependent on weather and light conditions, looking different in sunny or cloudy weather, and in the morning or afternoon. The weather is clear, and the sunset is the most beautiful. The valley is often shrouded in fog, which limits the view from the observation deck; aerial photography is easily affected by strong winds, but offers a superior perspective. 🌹Conclusion Still, heed the advice of the Luoxiagou scenic area staff, going to the village is indeed not very appealing, if possible, just fly a drone.
