Follow the speed limit warning here and drive slowly. In any case, you will want to drive slowly or stop by the roadside to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Just an hour's drive from Christchurch you're in Akaroa. The town isn't so exciting for us, but the scenery on this peninsula is so beautiful. Drive on the main road and after entering Akaroa we stayed on this so-called “tourism route,” a long, winding route with beautiful views. If you have a full drive, you can play like we do: at the end of Akaroa, there is a small park on the right, turn left there, and then go up and down... The road becomes a gravel road. To the top you can either hike or follow a very steep and narrow gravel path to the bay. It’s really exciting!
