The predecessor of Xinchang wood fossils was trees such as pine, cypress, fir, ginkgo, and quail growing in the virgin forest hundreds of years ago. Due to the changes in the earth's crust, the logs were buried deep underground and long-term by the silica solution. Plant fibers were replaced by silica precipitated and filled, forming wood-shaped silica rocks. So called siliconized wood. These lifelike prehistoric fossils, reproduce the body and texture of the year, it is an important data to study the paleoclimate, crustal changes and paleobiological history of East China.

Wood fossil dinosaur park is a small attraction in the Xinchang Big Buddha Temple scenic area, mainly to appreciate the previous trees after years of underground, become stones, of course, there are some artificial small dinosaurs as foil.
