The internet is good and easy to use. I bought an e-SIM in advance and activated it upon arrival at Osaka Airport. It has 5G in some spots and 4G in others. The speed is high; I used 2 gigabytes a day, but I don't use it all because the hotel has good, high-speed Wi-Fi.

The signal is unstable. After watching videos for a while each day, the signal becomes extremely slow, and even mobile payment functions become unusable.

I had no problems using this eSim in Nagoya, Okazaki and Matsumoto. It was a breeze, and I never lost access to the internet, which was super important as we were navigating the roads while driving, and really depended on Google Maps to get to all our destinations through the rural areas as well.

I found that the signal had no issues while I was in Kyoto and Osaka, even in underground subways signal was strong. The only time it was weak was when I was in a shop in Sannenzaka. I think it was the building itself that blocked the signal as when I stepped out it was fine. Installation was easy as I just had to scan the qr code, turn off my SIM and turn on esim. For those who are wondering whether to turn on data roaming as the instructions say to, my phone is a Xiaomi 14T and data roaming is International Roaming. I did not turn it on.
