Well done but not worth the trip
If you have a great interest in this aspect of Japanese history then Abashiri prison is worth a trip. If you don't meet that requirement then this is really a waste of time for you. This is well ...
It takes about an hour to see it. When I went there in June, the flowers and greenery were very beautiful, and the garden left an impression on me more than the prison. The doll had tattoos and the art was fine and I could laugh.
It's a prison in use, so of course I can't go inside, but I feel the history of the brick wall. The shops outside the wall sell works made by prison inmates nationwide, not only here. It was politely finished as well as the reputation, and it was affordable for the high quality.
The main gate of red brick This is a prison under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice. It is not for sightseeing. It is on the other side across the Abashiri River. You can't go unless you cross the Kagamibashi. Since it says, "Tourist vehicles are prohibited from passing," I stopped at the municipal Sankyo parking lot in front of me and walked. When you cross the bridge, brick walls continue.
This is not a museum prison, but a real prison. It seems to be air-conditioned and comfortable now, and it seems that moderate criminals, not heavy criminals, are imprisoned. Products produced by prison work are sold at the shop.
