I had fond memories of the night time Bristol balloon fiesta (8 years ago?), so decided to return this year (daytime). Sooo disappointed, it felt like there were hundreds of touristy-type stands (mainly fast food and balloons) and about six balloons in the middle of the field.Parking was also extortionate (£20.00 and you still had to walk half a mile or so) and the parking attendant told us he had turned people away from the priority parking area (pre-booked at additional cost) due to it being full.Sadly, unable to recommend this. It is probably worth taking a picnic and watching the event from a distance :

Wonderful to see this event & its free! you can also camp here which would be great to see the early lift off!Amazing to see the balloons go up such a spectacle a wonderful day lots of side shows food etc nice to take a picnic also.
It is recommended that you go to the venue in advance. After all, the hot air balloon festival is still very hot. There is no good location when you go late! The organizers also prepared many entertainment facilities: carousels, ice cream trucks, etc., as well as stalls to provide drinks and food. But friends can also bring their own picnic basket, lying on the lawn while enjoying the summer sun while enjoying the dream hot air balloon!
Magical feeling for the whole family when evening comes and the lights begin to light up the sky.food and drink on site accessible toilets well-behaved dogs welcome fun for the whole family close to hotels B&Bs food
Bristol Balloon Festival is a famous event in this city. It is called Bristol Balloon Festival. It is held every August for three days. We arrived in Bristol yesterday on the first day of the opening of the 2016 Balloon Festival. Before 6 p.m., we followed the crowd to the activity site, and saw people from all over the UK on the grassland leading their homes already "camping", a lively scene. Temporary large-scale entertainment facilities and catering stalls around it also make the atmosphere here more warm. But at 6 o'clock, when the event is expected to start, the announcer's voice comes from the loudspeaker, telling us that because of the weather, the high-altitude wind is too strong, and today's hot-air balloon activity is cancelled. We regret it. But no one complained or complained. Many people began to leave, and many people continued to wait for the fireworks show that started at 9 o'clock.
Taking a hot air balloon is still a relatively novel experience, overlooking the city from a high-altitude perspective.
Mass ascent was cancelled for both morning and evening due to bad weather unfortunately on August 12, 2023.
