The atomic bomb dome is Hiroshima's most famous landmark. It was formerly the Hiroshima Prefecture Industrial Award Hall. However, during the Second World War, when the US military dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, the center of the explosion fell nearby, and the surrounding buildings were almost leveled. The building, which is also a broken wall, barely survived, and the dome became an anti-war symbol of the sad event and was included in the World Heritage Site in 1996.
