The Meridian Road, also known as the Meridian Plank Road, is an important passage from Chang'an, Beijing, to Hanzhong, Bayan and other southern regions. It is named after crossing the Meridian Valley and starting a section of the road from Chang'an South Bank in the north-south direction. Repairs and route changes have been made throughout the ages. During the Eastern Han and Tang periods, both became national martyrs.
