It is a trendy neighbourhood with many hotels and apartments along a stretch of restaurants, clubs and bars. The Alkaff bridge is a photogenic spot and one of the landmarks in Singapore. During the day, it is the colourful bridge. At night, this bridge will be lit up and you can see its reflections on Singapore river. It is so mesmerising. This bridge is also in working conditions and it can bring you from one side of the Singapore river to the opposite side.

#staycation My berry loft-cation at Studio M Hotel and I want to show you their location which is easily accessible from Alkaff bridge along the Singapore River. There are living things inside the Singapore River and you can use the stairs to go down to the river too. I happened to see one of the restaurant owners throwing many slices of bread into the river. Suddenly, the river came alive and there was much water splashing from the fishes and tortoises living in the river. Very soon, all the bread was gone. You still can see the fishes and tortoises hanging around for more feeding. By the way, it is illegal to feed/fish at the Singapore River, especially releasing wildlife into the river too. So please do not abandon your pets.

#localhistory Alkaff bridge Along Havelock Rd Alkaff bridge is another pedestrian/cyclist bridge for crossing across the river. This is a very interesting bridge. By day, it is also known as the rainbow bridge because of its graffiti. By night, the bridge is illuminated and depending on the colors, it can be a red/blue/green bridge at night. The naming of this bridge came from “the Alkaffs, a prominent Arabian family, who were among the wealthiest in Singapore during the early 20th century.” The shape of the bridge is also unique as it resembles a light boat which was commonly used back in the days to transport goods along the Singapore River. The vibrant colors of this bridge happened in 2004. From the website, :The Alkaff Bridge was painted in January 2004 in vibrant colours by Filipino artist Pacita Abad (1946–2004) and a team of rope specialists. The artist and her crew of helpers used 55 different colours and more than 900 litres of industrial-strength paint to transform the bridge into Singapore's first "Bridge of Art". You will not miss this Alkaff bridge when you are in this area. It is also a very photogenic spot for photos. Come in the evening, enjoy a stroll along the Singapore River and enjoy the illumination and vibrancy.
