Had a great stay at Paya Bunga Hotel, Terengganu. The room was clean and comfortable, and the view was absolutely beautiful. Staff were super friendly and helpful throughout the stay.
Definitely a place I’d come back to. Highly recommended!
I honestly wouldn't recommend this place if you're purely looking for a relaxing vacation. First off, the hotel's design is poorly laid out with winding paths and lots of uphill climbs. You'll rely entirely on buggies to get around. To reach the beach, you have to descend over 200 steps. The restaurant has limited seating and the food selection isn't extensive. Breakfast only runs until 10:30 AM, and housekeeping only cleans once a day. The staff's efficiency isn't great; they often forget things you've told them. On our last day, they came to pick up our luggage at 10:30 AM for a 12 PM ferry. Of course, there are some positives. The hotel's diving center is very professional and has a great attitude. Even though I only signed up for snorkeling, our guide, a lovely lady with a sweet voice, accompanied our group of four the entire time, showing us many corals and fish.
After a 45-minute boat ride, we got off at the first stop and contacted the hotel for a pick-up. It was less than a 10-minute drive to the hotel. Next to the hotel, there's a local restaurant; their tomato fried rice was good, but the green beans were a bit undercooked. The prices were reasonable. The hotel's internal restaurant also served good food, so you can eat there if you don't want to go out. The hotel's buffet breakfast was quite lavish, and the kids loved it! The hotel has a yoga studio and a gym (you need to take the hotel's sightseeing car up the mountain), a kids' club, a trampoline, billiards, table tennis, manual mahjong, and foosball. Right outside the pool is a beach. If you want to go snorkeling (our diving times were 9 AM and 2 PM, arrive at the dive center 10 minutes early), you need to book in advance with the hotel, then go to the dive center behind the restaurant to get your gear and wait to depart. The hotel beach has many small crabs, and lots of small fish in the water; in deeper areas, there are bigger fish too. The hotel was very comfortable, and the kids didn't want to leave after 3 nights. We'll definitely come back to this hotel next time.
Sometimes, monkeys appear on the room balconies, so try not to hang clothes out there, as they might be taken by the monkeys.
The rooms are wooden cabins, so the facilities are a bit old, and many things showed signs of dampness and mold. The basic amenities are just okay; germaphobes probably wouldn't be able to stay here.
I would like to thank the management of the Barat

The hotel is quite old, clearly built in the last millennium. They changed the name and did some renovations. They painted here and there, plastered some spots. Some rotten parts, however, they didn't bother to replace.
The rooms are large and the renovations are good. No complaints there. However, the cleaning is poor. In the bathroom area (shower and toilet), the floor is very dirty. It clearly hasn't been cleaned at all. There's no shower gel, only shampoo and conditioner. Though, perhaps they expect you to wash with shampoo.
Around the cottages, there's a lot of trash.
On the day we arrived, the pool surface was covered in a dirty film, like stagnant swamp water. They did clean it later, though. The showers by the pool don't work; they're clogged.
The hotel has its own beach with sun loungers, which is a big plus.
There's no restaurant or bar at the hotel, just a canteen. You can eat in the canteen, but the menu is very limited, even if the food isn't bad. Breakfast is terrible. There's practically no choice, which is strange considering the room rate. Twice for breakfast, they served clearly stale, bluish-looking omelets.
This hotel is absolutely not worth the money they charge. It wouldn't be so bad if the room cost no more than $100 per night, but anything above that is complete nonsense.
Although the food selection was limited, the taste was good. The hotel's location was relatively secluded, making it suitable for travelers who prefer quiet. When we first entered the room, we were struck by the strong smell of paint. The staff said it was from freshly painted rooms, but the smell made us feel dizzy and nauseous. We asked to change rooms, but the other rooms also had a strong smell. The pillows looked clean, but they were full of mold. There were many ants in the room, everywhere. I slept in one night and got several bites.
How to describe it? It's simply excellent! The hotel service is superb, the scenery is beautiful, and the beach is incredibly therapeutic. The attention to detail is remarkable. Every morning, we'd have monkeys and squirrels coming to greet us. It was definitely worth staying for four days.
Great location, they upgraded our room for free.
The room can accommodate a large family. Clean bedding, hot water. Helpful reception staff. The kitchen was already open on the 12th, so we ordered breakfast.
The price was reasonable.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this resort and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our vacation. The hospitality was exceptional from the time we arrived until our departure. The staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and always willing to help with a smile.
The resort itself is beautifully located, with stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a relaxing atmosphere that made it the perfect getaway. The pool facilities were excellent, and there were plenty of activities available to keep both adults and children entertained throughout our stay.
The food was fantastic, offering a great variety of delicious options, and the overall ambiance of the resort was both welcoming and relaxing. Every detail seemed thoughtfully planned to ensure guests had a memorable experience.
A special thank you to Bryan, who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. He was always available to provide information, answer questions, and ensure that all our needs were taken care of. His attentiveness, professionalism, and genuine care for guests truly stood out and made a significant difference to our overall experience.
We highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a memorable beach holiday with outstanding service, great facilities, and a fantastic atmosphere. We look forward to returning in the future.

GGuest UserI would like to sincerely thank you for the wonderful hospitality, friendliness, and helpful service throughout my wife’s and my stay at Tanjong Jara Resort. From the smooth check-in until check-out, every moment made our stay truly enjoyable, memorable, and relaxing.
We had a very happy experience at the resort and would highly recommend Tanjong Jara Resort to our family and friends. It is definitely one of the best resort choices in Terengganu.
Special thanks and appreciation to Ai Li, Umah, Haziq, Ruzly, Angel, Amira, Athir, Yusri, Yanna, Khairi, and Aidil for their excellent service, warm hospitality, and dedication in making our stay so pleasant.
Thank you once again, and we hope to visit again in the future 😊

GGuest UserThe room is large, with a courtyard, and a little bit of a Maldivian feel, but no hair dryer was found. The food is good, the taste is OK, the ingredients are fresh, and it is slightly more expensive than other nearby restaurants. The service is still quite enthusiastic, especially the on-demand food service staff for breakfast, who are very enthusiastic and proactively ask if there are any dishes that need to be ordered. Proactive service is precious and feels very good. However, the front desk service is perfunctory, seemingly enthusiastic but not solving the problem. After waiting for a long time, no one took the initiative to tell us that we can check in. We went to the front desk to ask, and a few chatty waitresses smiled and said that it was ok now. When we left, we missed the boat because the front desk arranged to wait for the water taxi. Obviously, we were very anxious and asked many times, but the front desk told us that there was no problem. The boat is often late. I asked them to call the shipping company to inform us that we have not boarded the boat yet, and I guess there was no communication. I was speechless. The service to customers should not be just superficial enthusiasm. I hope to really solve problems for guests instead of creating problems.
