Segovia is just 45 minutes from Madrid by high-speed train. The ancient city, a world heritage site, is home to a famous ancient Roman aqueduct, a fairytale castle, and Spain's most delicious roast suckling pigs and is your best choice for a 1-day tour outside of Madrid.

Segovia is located about 100 km north of Madrid and the fortified city stands 1000 m above

sea level. In addition to the Acueducto de Segovia, one can find a castle that is said to have inspired the Disney Logo, and the famous roast suckling pigs. Today, Segovia's Old Town is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The magnificent ancient Roman aqueduct (Acueducto de Segovia) is located in the Plaza delAzoguejo. This huge water bridge was built by the ancient Romans in the 2nd century BC and is Europe's best-preserved aqueduct, the most popular structure in the city, and the source of inspiration for many artists.

The ancient Roman aqueduct (Acueducto) is the most magnificent and best preserved ancient Roman relic left by the Romans on the Iberian Peninsula. It is a symbol of Segovia and had

been working well for nearly 2,000 years to provide water for Segovia. It is now listed in the

World Heritage list.

The Aqueduct was built in the 1st century A.D. and is 28.5 m high at its highest point, supported by 167 arches. It transports water from Fuente Fria, 17 km away, to the castle (Segovia Alcazar) and the central Old Town's Plaza Azoguejo.

The Aqueduct is built out of unmortared granite slabs from the Guadalamah Mountain. The

slabs are not only balanced, but perfectly aligned, strong, elevated, and impermeable. Don'tyou think it's magic?

The Alcazar of Segovia is a unique stone fortress surrounded by steep cliffs on three sides and is only accessible via a suspended bridge. It is said that Disney's "Snow White Castle" is based on its slate roof and dreamy castle shape.

The castle is now a huge historical museum in which the largest military museum displays historic military equipment. The most fascinating exhibits are the black cannons, the long spears, and the suits of armor.

Additionally, 392 pine cone-shaped carvings hang from the ceiling inside the Sala de las Piñas; Inside the Sala des los Reyes, one can find a sculpture, and 52 engravings depicting kings fighting bloody battles to reclaim lost territories. Standing on top of the castle and looking around, you can see the whole Old Town.
