Exterior and surroundings

The castle is built on a rocky perch that looks out over the countryside in all directions, above the confluence of the rivers Eresma and Clamores at the bottom of Sierra de Guadarrama, which is a perfect location for defensive fortifications. It is located at Pl. Reina Victoria Eugenia, s/n, 40003 Segovia. The current castle was built in the 14th century by the monarchs of Castile, becoming their residences. Today part of the castle serves as a military museum. Entering the castle required crossing the drawbridge over the moats. The Alcazar and the old town of Segovia was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. It is one of the Spain most impressive castles.
