The bougainvillea in the courtyard is absolutely beautiful, and the environment is very comfortable. You can play billiards and table tennis here. The food in the restaurant is also delicious. It's quite close to Green Lake and the subway station, making it convenient for getting around.

Traveling solo in Kunming, my stay at Old Big Foot International Youth Hostel completely exceeded my expectations – it's truly an ideal haven for backpackers!
The location is absolutely unbeatable. Just a few steps out the door is Zhuanxin market, where I could get everything from tofu rice noodles and Dai-style snacks to fresh fruit in one go. It's also not far from the subway station, making it super easy to get to all the major attractions around the city. The hostel itself has a courtyard bursting with bougainvillea, and you'll find traveler messages and map check-in walls everywhere. The downstairs bar is perfect for sunbathing during the day, and for listening to music and chatting at night, sometimes with guests playing guitar – it's such a gentle and therapeutic atmosphere.
The accommodation details are incredibly thoughtful. Every bed has a full blackout curtain, creating a private little space when drawn. The bedding was clean and odorless, there was 24-hour hot water, and the cleaning staff tidied regularly, so the bathrooms were completely free of any smells. They provide lockable lockers and self-service washer and dryer machines, so no worries about valuables or laundry. The front desk staff were incredibly patient, offering detailed recommendations for local tours and free luggage storage. Their 24-hour presence made me, as a solo female traveler, feel completely safe.
It's really easy to meet like-minded travel companions here. There are plenty of activities like billiards, movie nights, and city walks, so you never have to worry about feeling lonely. The prices are affordable, the facilities are comprehensive, and the atmosphere is warm. It's perfect whether you're staying for a short visit or just passing through. I wholeheartedly recommend it to solo travelers who enjoy a lively, authentic vibe!

Everything was clean, the room was comfortable, and the hostel is in a great location. There is a WeChat group chat for guests to use to meet each other and coordinate activities, and the staff did their best to be helpful. I don't speak Chinese, so for me there was a language barrier (the staff only spoke limited English, and the chat was all in Chinese so I didn't engage), but this isn't the fault of the hostel.

Traveling to Dali solo, I chose Lili Wanxiang and had a really comfortable stay. Each room has its own sink, shower, and toilet, which is super convenient. The common areas have a great vibe. If you're out in the Old Town and want to come back, there's always a shuttle bus available. Most importantly, the dogs here are incredibly, incredibly, incredibly cute, like little trucks! And there are kittens that look like gas cans too!

Located right next to the core area of Xishuangbanna, the surrounding commercial environment is lively with plenty of large supermarkets and shopping streets. The bedding was relatively comfortable and clean, but many of the bathroom facilities were broken. Also, the cleanliness of the hostel's common areas could be significantly improved. Hopefully, it will get better and better!

I've stayed in many hostels across the country, but this is the first one I've truly wanted to recommend to everyone! The atmosphere is fantastic, the scenery is beautiful, it's clean and tidy, and the owner is lovely. It's especially amazing to just sit on the sofa and zone out when the sun is out. This is hands down the best value-for-money hostel I've ever stayed in. The owner even gave me a ticket to a stage play! If you love ethnic culture, you'll be absolutely thrilled! Highly, highly recommend!!!

Traveling to Dali solo, I blindly picked iYe Youth Hostel and it was absolutely the right choice! The overall vibe is fresh and healing, with a courtyard full of Yunnan charm. You can see Cangshan Mountain just by looking up – the atmosphere is just perfect. The rooms are spotless, with ample storage space, and the bathroom is well-divided, making it very convenient to use.
The common areas were a pleasant surprise. Whether it was relaxing in the afternoon or chatting with fellow travelers from all over the world and sharing travel stories in the evening, it felt incredibly comfortable. The owner is easygoing and knows all the best spots in Dali, giving out niche tips that helped me avoid many tourist traps. My stay here was relaxing and happy; not only was it comfortable, but I also met many interesting people. It was a truly warm stop on my Dali trip, and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling alone!

The place is very, very pleasant and the male host is gentle, friendly and helpful even with no english spoken. The dorm is quiet, spacefull and airy. Toilets are clean with hot running water. No soaps of any kind provided. There is a nice terrace where to relax. Unexpensive loundry. Bed is clean and comfortable with bed light and plagues. The only thing that really disappointed me was that the hostel doesn't provide TOILET PAPER: it is abnoxious, most of all because no one advises you (wechat information message) and you have to realise by yourself!
Close to the long distance bus station and a colourful fresh food local market.

During my stay at Yaju, I learned how to distinguish different types of succulents. Not because someone taught me, but because I'd go up to the rooftop every day, and when I was bored, I'd take photos with Doubao (a photo recognition app) one by one to ask about them. Everything here is slow-paced: coffee takes time, wine needs to be sampled, and a game of chess lasts half an hour. But the guests are never in a hurry; it's as if time automatically slows down a beat once you arrive. Yaju probably aims to be a place where people aren't afraid to 'waste' time.

The location is just perfect and the owner is so kind and helpful, he even suggested me a place to eat something local and it was wonderful. The rooms are clean and he also let me do my loundry in his washing machine! The last day I was also invited to have some tea with him before I left! It was a really pleasant experience and also easy since he speaks english! I really recommend it!

SstephoneyThis is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. It’s conveniently located near Dali Ancient Town and has a very friendly atmosphere. It’s easy to form a group and hang out with your dorm mates. Most importantly, the boss’s cooking is the best in Dali. I’d even say it’s better than my mom’s!
EEloise LangoulantVery convenient for hikers in the gorge. This is the end of the hiking route and very close to where the buses leave for Lijiang and Shangri-la (you can buy bus tickets at Tina's). There is a restaurant on site serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, with vegetarian options, and selling water, snacks and beers. The views are incredible (as they are everywhere in the gorge). The room was simple but clean and comfortable. We had a lovely beer on the roof to celebrate our hike before a delicious dinner.
GGuest UserI stayed for two nights here in a four bed women dormitory. It is simple and you have all the services that you need : a kitchen, a washing machine, little food shops at the building's entrance and it's not far from the railway station.
Also, hosts are wonderful !! They prepared a meal in the evening. We visited town together : they brought me to Kunming lake, street snacks, food market in the morning and a nice park. All that for free !! I highly recommend this homestay. Simple, not expensive and warm up. 😊🙌

NNatazaEnjoy my stay here. The bed is comfy. The bathroom is big and inside the room. The atmosphere of the hostel is nice. And it is near 大理古城. I can also store my luggage there when I checked out. Next time i will go back to Dali if I have chance, 洱海 really beautiful but it is a pity the weather when I stayed there is raining all the time.
GGuest UserChepaest hostel but it did not disappoint. Bed and everything was clean. Pillow and comforter was provided as well. You can wash your clothes yourself with minimal charge and hang it there to dry. Around 10mins away to the old town (I0mins walk). They can arrange tour for your as well. Recommend!
GGuest UserI went for it for the price, but still some lacking things surprised me. The bed was hard, the walls in the room were mostly dirty and stained from both human use and mosquito splatters. There was rarely someone available for inquiries and the outside toilet was a big downside, since it was quite cold, especially at night. Having a kitchen to use was definitely a plus and the rooftop areas were pretty nice, although messy. I was sad to see all the animal they have spend the whole day caged or chained 😔
PPinpinkuoI came from Taiwan on a solo trip after seeing a recommendation on Xiaohongshu. I took a bus from Shaxi to Dali at 9 am, then took the high-speed rail from Dali to Kunming and then to Pu'er. After a long bus ride over mountains, I arrived at the hotel at 8 pm. The warm and comfortable atmosphere of the hotel completely dispelled the hardships of the journey. It was a magical atmosphere. The hotel was very comfortable, and most of the guests were solo female travelers. It was easy to find travel buddies to share meals and make plans to travel to other places next time. Every night, the owner would brew Pu'er tea. I especially liked the unique glutinous rice black tea. While strolling around the hotel, the owner even took me on her little motorcycle to some hidden spots in the mountains to eat, drink, and take photos. In short, it was a wonderful place. When I left, I also took some of my favorite Pu'er tea home to share.
