This was my first time staying at a hostel from this chain, the one near Kunming's Zhuanxin Farmers Market, and I remember it had a beautiful bougainvillea bush!
I chose Qincheng Hostel again, this time picking this specific branch because it's super close to Cuihu Lake, Wenlin Street, and Yunnan University. Their restaurant offers a great variety of food and drinks, and I particularly love their curry beef rice. There are activities every day, and especially on Saturday nights, they have a concert. The singer's voice is unique and beautiful, and listening to music in their cozy bar is just the most comfortable experience. 'Hei Mu Ya' (Blackwood Cliff) is their elevated platform, nestled among huge eucalyptus trees. It's really peaceful on rainy days and nice and cool when it's hot.

It started off great, with both the environment and service being top-notch. I booked for two consecutive days. On the second day, it seemed like some of the other beds had new occupants, and the quality of the new guests varied. Given the hotel has so many rooms, it's impossible to keep an eye on everyone. Overall, it was still pretty good.

The service was great! The front desk attendants went above and beyond to give me recommendations in the area for my specific wants/needs and also helped me with using the laundry services as it is not easy for people without a Chinese phone number to access. The food was decently priced and really quite good! The only thing I didn't love is that there weren't any outside areas that were non-smoking, even the outside dining area. I'm aware that it's very common in China to smoke in restaurants, so I can't be too upset about it. The hostel was really quite beautiful with the lovely plants and the bright paint colors.

This is my second stay at Backpacker's, and Lijiang Backpacker's is still lively, but the facilities are a bit old and not well-maintained. The cleanliness of room A24 was a bit subpar. However, what really stood out was the excellent service at the front desk. Big Wang (Dawang) deserves a high rating; he was great at engaging with guests, playing Werewolf with us, chatting, and recommending nearby food. It was a very good experience overall.

My first time staying at a hostel, and it exceeded all my expectations! The overall environment was clean and fresh, the facilities were complete, and the layout was very comfortable. Everyone was polite and quiet, not noisy at all, making for a really peaceful stay. The location is also excellent, very convenient for getting around. It's affordable but offers a great lodging experience. This first hostel stay left a wonderfully positive impression on me; I highly recommend it!

On the day of arrival, the hostel provided a pick-up service. The front desk staff was very enthusiastic and even helped with our luggage. The room was clean and tidy, and the hostel had a great atmosphere with live music. They also offered meals.
**Facilities:** Wi-Fi, toiletries, and a laundry room were all available.
**Cleanliness:** Clean and tidy. If staying over three nights, you can ask the front desk to change the linens.
**Environment:** Located at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, the scenery is beautiful and the climate is pleasant.
**Service:** On the day of check-in, the hostel contacted us regarding the pick-up service, which was very thoughtful.
**Dali Ancient City West Gate Shuttle:** The front desk would ask every hour if anyone needed a shuttle, which was very considerate.

This was my second time visiting Kunming, and also my second stay at Yajv. I have to give it a full 5 stars!
Yajv is right near Kunming Station. If you exit the North Plaza and walk straight to your right for about five minutes, you'll be there. It's located within a residential complex, a three-story building, with a supermarket downstairs and plenty of places to eat.
The rooms at Yajv are clean, cozy, and comfortable. The mattresses are very soft, and they clean the bedding after every guest. The rooms are spacious, with ample room beyond just the bed. Each bed has a privacy curtain, and everyone gets a locker for their belongings, which requires your room key to open – offering great privacy. Plus, no outside food is allowed in the rooms!
The bathrooms are communal and separate for men and women. The women's restroom has double doors and offers 24-hour hot water. The water pressure is fantastic! This is so important for us Guangxi people! Guangxi people have to shower every day!!
What I loved most were the communal space on the second floor and the large balcony on the third floor, both great places to relax. The second floor is non-smoking; you can watch people and cars go by outside the window, read a book, or even ask the owner for a cup of tea. He hasn't priced his tea yet, so just be a bit cheeky, it doesn't cost anything to ask.
In the living room on the second floor, there's a wall with a cloth or something hanging, covered in drawings. The owner and his friends designed and painted them themselves – they're totems. There are sun patterns, bronze drums, frogs… symbols representing the natural and animal worship of primitive tribes. Here, you might find yourself having many 'wild and imaginative' thoughts.
The rooftop on the third floor is very breezy and comfortable. In early summer, you can see the lush green trees growing freely. You might even find a dog zoning out with you, though it could also be that he's hidden a bone upstairs and is watching to see if anyone is going to dig it up – hard to tell what they're thinking.
Another enjoyable trip to Kunming, I'll be back next time!

This was my first time staying at a Shangri-La hostel, and while many friends recommended it, it was also my first time in a private room without a private bathroom. The price was great, but having to walk down the hall to the restroom in the middle of the night was a bit of a nightmare. I didn't shower for the three days I was there. The front desk staff, both the young women and young men, were excellent and almost always granted my requests. Breakfast was really affordable. Even after midnight, the hallway was still very noisy, and there was a lot of crazy dog barking. When the room next door closed their door, I could feel a huge vibration in my bed! But staying in a hostel is all about the atmosphere, right? You can meet fellow travelers in the lobby and go on adventures together. Almost all of our companions were from the 'Lijiang Backpacking Ten Years' group, so let's go climb some mountains together!

The bathroom was very clean and regularly serviced. The people were nice.
Environment: There's a cafe, but the coffee looked cheap so I skipped it.
The cafe is great for working and even has a projector for movies, which is a nice touch.
Service: Spot on!

The hostel is in an excellent location. The manager is very kind and always tries to help. The place is clean, the beds are large and comfortable, and the common areas are great and perfect for meeting people. There are Western-style toilets, and the staff speaks English, which is a big plus for me. It doesn’t smell like cigarette smoke (which can be common in China), and quiet hours are respected. I would definitely stay here again.

--atahuolan-Had a wonderful week in Dali.
The hostel had such a great vibe, and the courtyard was so cozy. There were so many adorable cats – I absolutely loved them! Now I have to head back, and I'm so reluctant to leave. I've practically been crying all day 😭.
I also made some friends and created so many wonderful memories... Wandering around Dali with my roommates, and even celebrated a birthday with a foreign friend I met. Saying goodbye was also very emotional 😢. Until we meet again, my friends!
I hope we can all live our lives the way we truly love.
I'll definitely be back.
EEloise LangoulantVery convenient for hikers in the gorge. This is the end of the hiking route and very close to where the buses leave for Lijiang and Shangri-la (you can buy bus tickets at Tina's). There is a restaurant on site serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, with vegetarian options, and selling water, snacks and beers. The views are incredible (as they are everywhere in the gorge). The room was simple but clean and comfortable. We had a lovely beer on the roof to celebrate our hike before a delicious dinner.
GGuest UserLocation was great that it was a walk away from the Kunming Railway Station where I needed to be to leave the city. I liked how it was near a lot of food places! The volunteer Evens was an interesting person to talk to when I learned about his background in what he does as an occupation and where he is originally from in China. The owner Winni was a nice person as well and I appreciated and enjoy her and some of the other guests that cooked for us the night that we had a big dinner. Thank you for being part of the chef crew Winni. Everybody who stayed at the place was respectful and considered towards one another in the way that they conducted themselves. Was able to go along with the rules of this hostel because it fit my daily habits. Nobody had any habits that bothered me.
Not really into the hostel type of stays, due to lack of privacy. Was just happy to stay at this place since it was pretty much right at the doorstep of the Kunming Railway station where I can catch my train on time where I wouldn't end up getting lost in the city which in turn would end up missing it.
The only negative thing that I didn't like was that the bathroom did not have bath towels and just regular hand towels where I would not be able to dry myself very well after showering. Because of this I didn't want to take a shower at this place and the fact that these towels were used repeatedly from other guests, which made me feel uncomfortable wanting to use it. Would come back to this Hostel again if I happen to have to come back to Kunming again where I needed to be near this train station to catch at train there.

GGuest UserCompared with those popular youth hostels in Dali, this one is relatively quiet, but there is nothing wrong with it. The owner is very nice, the place is very clean, men and women are on different floors, the bathrooms are a little small but completely sufficient, and there was no need to queue for washing at night when it was the busiest during the May Day holiday. The location is about ten minutes' walk from the ancient city, and it is very cost-effective and recommended.
HHAFIZ NOOR08The owner 老板娘 & 老板 is very accomodating - they will treat u like family. Great thing abt the hostel:-
- location: near to lijiang ancient city southern gate (5 mins walk), bua stop, shops, laundry etc
- hospitality 5 ⭐️: they go out of their way to accomodate
- bbq night: they will held a bbq every night for travellers
Thanks 老板娘 n 老板 for the hospitality ❤️❤️❤️

GGuest UserI went for it for the price, but still some lacking things surprised me. The bed was hard, the walls in the room were mostly dirty and stained from both human use and mosquito splatters. There was rarely someone available for inquiries and the outside toilet was a big downside, since it was quite cold, especially at night. Having a kitchen to use was definitely a plus and the rooftop areas were pretty nice, although messy. I was sad to see all the animal they have spend the whole day caged or chained 😔
GGuest UserThe hostel was exceptionally clean and tidy, and I was touched by many thoughtful little details. The owners were incredibly warm and friendly, offering a lot of itinerary suggestions and tips. The view from the small balcony was also stunning, perfect for watching the sunset and the sea of clouds; the location was superb. The beds were comfortable, the place was very quiet, and the facilities were complete. The other guests I met were also incredibly friendly and full of positive energy. Highly recommended!!!
