Great location to base yourself for a few days of seeing Queenstown. (It really is that close.)
Nice and friendly staff at check in and throughout. Most helpful.
Ents included TV, books, games, couple of guitars, ocassional theme evenings. Couple of outdoor spaces.
Bathrooms are fine although if fairly or more than fairly tall, the shower heads are surprisingly low down.
I understand the difficulties with this given the time of year but a floor by floor deep clean is probably needed. Whilst I am no member of the fun police, having numerous notes across the place emphasising the need to keep noise down after 10pm, I can see why this might be a bit galling when the staff who live there alongside guests do not abide by this - especially when you have no idea who is a worker who is off duty.
Might be impossible given temperatures, but it wasn't ideal to climb into my bunk in the pitch black (other than the light from my phone) and find a cat sleeping there (honestly!) I like a cat but if I hadn't had my phone lit, I would never have known and would have landed forcefully on it. I actually found it quite funny but a lot wouldn't. All hell could have broken loose if I had landed on it. (Amusingly and no joke, I was watching Don't F*** with Cats at the time and had paused it while I climbed in. Perhaps it was written...)
Anyway, really nice spot and right for the price.
Cheers!
The gentleman at the hotel's front desk left a lasting impression; he always served with a smile and had a great attitude. During my stay, if I had any issues, he was very enthusiastic in helping me resolve them. The location and environment are superb; I got to stroll along Lake Wakatipu every day, which was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. Also, a Chinese lady at the Queenstown site store helped me out when I couldn't find my booking because of a website error. She communicated with the other party to resend the order, which really put my mind at ease. Much appreciated!
While the room was on the smaller side, this was anticipated given that it doesn't offer a private bathroom. The listing indicated a 'separate toilet,' but in reality, it was just a washbasin within the room, and the toilet itself was shared. If privacy for facilities is important to you, I'd strongly advise against booking.
Parking was also a significant challenge. The hotel lacks its own car park, requiring guests to find street parking. There are only two spots directly outside the hotel, which are rarely vacant and can be used by non-guests too. The whole street is usually packed with parked cars, making it extremely difficult to find a space.
Opposite the hotel are private residences. We found the occupants to be quite rude; they aggressively told us not to park in any seemingly empty spots in front of their properties. This was the only instance of rudeness I encountered during my entire trip to New Zealand; every other local I met was incredibly friendly.
Always my favourite place to stay when we go to The Catlins. Beach is nearby, sunset view is awesome. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back again.
The house and facilities were ok but not the room.
I was a solo traveler in a 6 bed room.
The room smells a lot. It was complicated to get on the top bed.
The baking sheet was really bad.
But in a really nice place, just in the center.
Very nice welcoming.
It’s a huge hostel in the prime part of queenstown so it’s a mixed bag on who you’ll be sharing a room with. There isn’t really anywhere to put your things in the room and need your own lock for the small safety cabinets, and sharing 2-4 outlets with everyone in the room, but it’s clean and the bed is fine.
The room have a nice lake view and comfy. There is a common kitchen for cooking purpose and lounge to rest. The only small comment is that there is no free luggage storage.
This hotel offers excellent service and boasts new facilities. The rooms are incredibly quiet, ensuring a very comfortable night's sleep. I highly recommend staying here when you visit New Zealand. The amenities are comprehensive, and the self-check-in and check-out process is very smart. It's definitely a top choice for accommodation during your travels.
Overall, the stay was quite satisfactory. The only downside is that the room is next to a shared toilet, and noise from the door opening and closing is noticeable.
The location is really convenient, the staff is very friendly, and they can help you organize a map of free parking locations. Unfortunately, the kitchen is located in the basement, which is a bit inconvenient. Occasionally there are strange noises in the middle of the night, but you can't change rooms. 🥲🥲🥲

GGuest UserThis was a lovely motel for my husband and dog. Very clean, good bed, two tvs and complimentary teas, coffees and bathroom shampoos abd body wash. Shower was hot and good pressure. Had a good heater and electric blanket. Good value for money. Would definitely go back again.
TTonyWengThe hotel is in a good location, although it's a short uphill walk back to the hotel.
The facilities inside the room are simple and complete, including electric heaters, electric blankets, and simple kitchens.
GGuest UserWe've been touring around the lower South Island for a little over 2 weeks, staying at motels for generally about 2 nights at a time. The Sierra Motel ranks as one of the nicest we have seen in the whole trip. The exterior looks dated but the interior is fabulous - large, clean, comfortable, and modern. There is a large TV (with basic Sky - would like to access Netflix), king bed, two lounge chairs and a good work/dining space as well as a large shower with two shower heads, and a large outdoor area with an exterior table and 2 chairs. We enjoyed a G&T outside our unit in the fading afternoon sun - very pleasant. Booking through Trip.com also gave us a very competitive price and 25% better that anything the motel would offer, so we were very happy indeed.
GGuest UserI had a wonderful stay there, will definitely go back if I visit the town again.
Very nice and warm welcome hospitality. During the check-in proactively provide useful information for the guests. Parking just right in front of the unit, very convenient. Only a few mins drive to supermarket and the famous tree in town!
Very clean and tidy of the unit, with well equipped l
Kitchen facilities. Like the shower with very hot water for winter. The hot spa at the top of the road near reception would be good to try when there is still day light, coz a bit too dark and cold at night unless having a few people going together chit chatting and watching stars? That could be a bit romantic too?
GGuest UserThe location is excellent, very close to the lake, you don't need to drive to walk there, the cafe next to it is super good, it is a celebrity, you need to queue up, and there is also a store that sells outdoor sportswear, which is super good
GGuest UserFacilities: All are quite complete, but the soundproofing is so bad that you can feel the cough next to your ear, and the bed is so soft that your waist will definitely ache the next day after sleeping on it.
Hygiene: It is clean, but there will be a lot of bugs flying in as soon as the door is opened. This has nothing to do with the hotel. It is mainly because there are a lot of bugs in the local area, so it is barely 4.5.
Environment: There was a Chinese group on the day of check-in. Most of the members were 50-year-old southern aunts and uncles, so please imagine the whole environment on the day.
Service: I really thought it was a hotel with a bit of artistic atmosphere after seeing the name, so I placed an order, but it was actually a motel. When checking in, the fat ********* girl's *** and indifferent expression were also very disgusting. After checking in, the various Chinese signs in the room that were visible to the naked eye, saying what you are not allowed to do, and if you do it, you will be fined a certain amount of money, which is also very uncomfortable. I believe that many Chinese must have done various things to cause this, but after all, they are guests, and they don't owe you anything. You can remind the motel, but there is no need to warn them proactively.
