My biggest mistake of this trip to Yamagata is to book this hotel. It's a good hotel but it's in the middle of nowhere. You will want to stay around the city of Yamagata province which is also called Yamagata city just so you can get to famous tourist spots. However this is 4 hours away from all of these. I had to book another hotel so I can stay 1 day in the city when I wanted to visit these places and the traveling time just completely made me exhausted. It took like 1 day to go to a place and 1 day to go back. It was so terrible, I was crying. This place is closed to Shonai airport not Yamagata airport so I also had to book another flight from Shonai. I wasted so much money for transportation. It was such a terrible experience. However the hotel is incredibly beautiful with smart design in everything. I loved the onsen very much. If it was just a vacation/restcation for relaxing purpose or isolate yourself from the human word, it's the best choice for you. Since its in the middle of the endless rice field, there is nothing to eat except for paying very high price to eat at the hotel's restaurant. And the food was just okay. The beauty of this hotel was like a trap. Its like I was blind from its beauty and couldn't see all other disavantages.

Facilities: Average, not very new, but not bad. Hygiene: The sanitation is pretty good Environment: The town is very quiet, the snowy scenery is beautiful, and every household has a persimmon tree Service: The service needs to be improved. The guy at the front desk can hardly speak English and is not very enthusiastic, which is different from many Japanese hostels Dining: Dinner is not bad, quite rich, and the tableware is also beautiful Special praise for the free snacks and coffee in the lobby☕️

It's very convenient to get there by car. The room has a bathtub, which is quite comfortable for soaking. The only downside is the air conditioning is a bit noisy when sleeping. The ingredients for dinner and breakfast were slightly subpar, but the service was good. The facilities are a bit old. At around 1000 RMB, this price would be more reasonable.

Onsen, I am told, is lovely. Stained mats and walls in our room suite was a concern. Charged for ice bucket to the room. Staff is friendly but seemed unable to take initiative to help. Breakfast has plentiful choices but some cut fresh fruits were still frozen.

As it is a long-established luxury inn, there are no problems with the facilities or the service. However, one thing that bothered me was that I had to wait a long time for dinner when I went to the dining room at the designated time. There were no strings to fasten the sleeves of the yukata anymore. It may have been a coincidence, but it was a great disappointment for a luxury inn that I rarely go to.

The service attitude of the hotel staff is really great. It is estimated that the breakfast Japanese dinner will be sold in China.

I suddenly had the day off work so I made a reservation on the same day. The service was polite, the room was clean, and I was able to spend a satisfying and relaxing time.

A hot spring hotel with a great value for money. It was quite late when I checked in, but the front desk staff still patiently explained it to me. It was a very good experience. The room and hot spring were both great, and the price was very reasonable. I will stay here again when I go to Yamagata next time! Thank you for the hospitality!

Basically, you can experience three hot spring baths (one of the basic men's and women's baths + four additional family baths are free), and the remaining three family baths can be used for an additional fee of 2500 yen. Two of the family baths are on the rooftop outdoors. One of the two dogs on the first floor was a Pamukkale type, dinner and breakfast were served in the room, and the next day they cleaned up the snow accumulated in the car. However, it was too noisy if the air conditioner heater turned on hard, so it was cold because I couldn't sleep and turned weak.

What a gem of a place! The special thing about this place is that there are 5 private outdoor onsens as well as a gender-segregated public bath and one mixed gender outdoor bath (for this one, you need to wear a bathing suit). If you are shy of exposing yourself or like taking photos, then those 5 private outdoor onsens are just perfect. I went in the autumn, which is cooling already and I can imagine what a treat it will be in winter with all the snow. The hotel is located almost to the top of the hill. Either drive or call them ahead and they will pick you up and drop you off in the vicinity. My room is quaint and Japanese-styled. I didn't pay for the meal package as I knew I'd would be busy trying out all the onsens available. They are all open 24hrs. By the way, private onsen number 1 and 5 are the best and most picturesque!!! I'm doing all a favor and posting all the pictures of the private onsens.

The room was beautiful, with tatami, yukata, tabi, and a little bag with towels to take with you when you go to their proper outdoor onsen that's right across the street. The onsen has good amenities, has 2 baths one indoor that's around 42 - 45 degrees, and outdoor one that's usually cooler around 38 - 42. The best thing about that onsen is that there usually not many people there, often I was there alone. The breakfast was great too, there were at least around 20 - 30 different dishes/foods to choose from. The hotel also sells discounted ski passes, and has it's own ski/snowboard rental service for lower price than most of the rental services nearby (the snowboard was of great quality, the shoes not so much). When we checked out, the hotel arranged a van to take us to the bus terminal as well. Overall, one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at in Japan. 👌🏻

Really great hotel in Zao onsen. The location is easy to find and free parking for guest. The room is big and clean. I love the window in our room see the snow falling and small pond as well. We didn’t booking the dinner & breakfast so I don’t know the food taste. However, onsen is really great!! I love outdoor onsen that you can see the view of Zao mountain while bathing and snow falling to your head!! but just scare of bear. So nice to stayed here!

Good location in Zao ski village - just opposite the bus terminal. Friendly and helpful staff, though speak very little English. We chose breakfast and dinner, pre-select from the menu. Both breakfast and dinner are delicious! Free transport is provided to ski lifts hourly. We have tatami room for 3 persons, quite spacious and great view from the window! Very warm and comfortable place to spend for few days.

The room was comfy, excellent service. I checked out in a rush this morning, front desk told me I have left something behind in my room. I responded, being sure I hadn't, until an elderly man I saw earlier from housekeeping came running down the stairs and handed me my travel charger and cables. A big thank you so much and sending me to the bus terminal in time. I love the view of the wintry slope from my room window especially.

We had an amazing ryokan stay at Takamiya with its rich history and culture. Our room was on the highest floor, which gave us beautiful views of the town. The food prepared was delicious and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The ryokan is located on top of a flight of stairs, and there are only stairs within the complex, so those with mobility issues would face difficulties. The staff will help out with your luggages during check-in and check-out though, and all amenities are provided for!
