We visited Aizuwakamatsu at the national holiday weekend so there were limited options to us in this famous onsen town, Hagishiyama. We wanted a more modern hotel, and while the shots of the room look good on their website, the reality is that it is much smaller than I had expected. Though the room looked new, the bathroom was a disappointment, small and shabby. With two large beds in the room, that leaves little space for moving around. And they try hard to squeeze all essential items of an onsen hotel room into the smallest space possible, including placing the vanity unit in the living room opposite the sleeping platform, sharing space with a kettle and drinking water glasses. There is a shoe stand and a folding screen in-between the toilet and bathroom, which is hugely strange and inconvenient. Ours is a 12-tatami room, which I expect would be good for 3 people, but the reality is that it is so cramped that one would not want to spend much time in the room. Perhaps that’s the reason why the hotel provided a lot of public sitting areas. Yes, for guests to admire the magnificent view of the mountain stream, but also to stay out of the uncomfortable room. The room was a huge disappointment but there are some nice sides of the hotel. Dinner was really good; we had window seats facing the waterfall and the Aizu beef was very delicious. The public onsets, especially the outdoor ones, are nice, situated just next to the mountain stream. All in all, for the US680 I paid for three, it was not good value for money.

I will go to the Aizu picture candle festival and stay if I find a cheap and good hotel that can go on a day trip! It is a hotel that hit by that. The service in Japan is really impeccable. The bus departing from Aizu Station is not at the nearest Higashiyama Onsen Station. The parking lot near the building is narrow and you will be directed to park in the farthest parking lot as you arrive. The lobby was clean and the lounge provided complimentary drinks. Since we live in the mountains, we had a lot of vegetables for dinner, but many of the dishes were flavored with soup stock and looked beautiful. Unfortunately, the grilled fish was lukewarm. Because the price was high, I thought the main dish would be Japanese beef, but I was a little disappointed that it was domestic beef. After dinner, my friend had a stomach ache, so I asked the front desk for directions and was told it was a 15 minute walk, so we set off on foot. The temperature was -4 degrees Celsius, it was snowing a little, the ground was frozen solid, and we walked for about 30 minutes trying not to fall. Taxi on the way home. When I looked it up later, the distance was 1.7km. When I told the man at the front desk about it, he answered, ”I always walk in 15 minutes.” I was angry that the remark came out before the apology. How many people do you think can walk a snowy ice van and a 1.7km snowy road in 15 minutes? Still, the bath in the room was too great, so I was more satisfied. Only one person at the front desk was disappointing because there were many good places.

A fun hot spring trip has developed into a police service! I stayed in a private open-air bath in the annex of Marumine Kanko Hotel. I had my wife make a reservation as a gift and looked forward to the meal and hot springs. Unfortunately, the content of the meal was not very delicious and it was disappointing than expected for the price. The view overlooking from the open-air bath was wonderful. v When I was sleeping in bed after meals, I flew away with a scream from my wife who was in the open-air bath. To my surprise, a guest in the next room embarked on the veranda and looked into the open-air bath. Contact the front desk immediately. The guest in the next room who was peeping explained, ”I was interested in what structure it was and was leaning out.” The hotel person who rushed was scared and uncomfortable, so I asked the guest in the next room to leave the hotel. After that, I heard from the front desk that the suspect had moved to another room. Since the room of my 々 is identified as a suspect, I 々 also called the front desk many times to convey the hope that I would like to change to another room, but ”the person in charge is heading here”.
