Volunteer Inn

Chipping Campden|4.27km from Northwick Park
Every person I interacted with at the Volunteer Inn was really friendly - from the young woman behind the bar who greeted me and checked me in, to the chaps in the Indian restaurant (no cooking smells in the bedrooms, as restaurant quite separate, just in case you're worried abou that!), to the lady who cooked my delicious breakfast in the morning. The breakfast was really good - real coffee, wonderfully fresh eggs and great sausages and bacon. Lots of choice for vegetarians and those just wanting cereal too. I hadn't stayed in a b&b with a shared bathroom for years, so had been a bit worried about that aspect, but it was totally fine, as the bathroom was accessed by a key and it was only shared with one other room. I felt safe and comfortable, so that was not an issue. Although I'm originally from Cheltenham, I had not been to Chipping Campden for decades - WOW! It's one of the most unspoiled Costwold towns I've seen, with the most thatched houses in one place I think I've ever seen! The villagers I spoke with were so very helpful and friendly (was on a quest for new tights for my evening biz meeting!) Looks like the town is directly on the Cotswold Way too, so I shall return with my daughter and have a good old yomp! Recommend very highly - the bedroom was simple, but clean and very comfy (the only reason I marked down to a 4 on cleanliness was because my little waste bin had not been emptied from the previous stay....feel a bit mean doing that but, well, it is important...) I can't wait to go back!

Noel Arms - "A Bespoke Hotel"

Chipping Campden|4.31km from Northwick Park
We spent a total of two nights at the Noel Arms in the beautiful village of Chipping Campden. This was a trip put on hold from Dec 2019 due to COVID, so we decided to attend and stay for my birthday instead. We were not disappointed. There is complimentary car parking close to the rear of the hotel to assist in the carrying of bags. On booking in we were asked if we wanted assistance with our bags, we were also shown to our room by Curtis the Deputy Manager. On arrival at our room - large with en suite bathroom and a huge bed, my wife had organised through the hotel, flowers and Champagne (in an ice bucket) ready to be drunk. As the weather was wet we decided to head downstairs with the champagne and sit in front of the fire, which was a wonderful experience. We had dinner in the hotel on both nights, experiencing the curries on offer (absolutely wonderful), the chicken and the burger. One of the meals were not upto standard however Curtis put this right straight away and ensured we were satisfied. There are numerous options for breakfast which also include hot options, cereal, juice, pastries and of course coffee or tea. The hotel was very busy during our stay and it was clear there wasn’t enough staff, things were a little disorganised however we did receive a great service. The other guests presents in the hotel were quite noisy on the first night, but this was resolved quickly after the guests were spoken to. The chef also offers plenty of GF, vegan and vegetarian alternatives. The Noel Arms is steeped in history and is close to a number of National trust properties. The high street is beautiful and I would recommend spending some time exploring the high street and chipping campden itself. We loved staying at the hotel and will return, hopefully for Christmas as I am certain the area it will be even more beautiful then. A huge thank you to Curtis, who is a wonderfully polite hardworking young man who couldn’t do enough for us. Curtis you an an absolute star and the Noel Arms are very lucky indeed to have you. Thank you again..
