Dolce Vita Resort Hotel ★★★★
"Quite an ambient enviromnent and very accessible to the key establijshments in the city. The staff were very friendly and helpful"
Bujumbura Hotel and appartment ★★
"The hotel is in Kinindo which is slightly outside the city. The road leading to the hotel is not tarred. The room is spacious but the bathroom can benefit from some repairs. As an aside, the exchange rate at the airport was bad but how else can anyone get into the city otherwise. I changed USD30 and that was barely enough to get me to the hotel (I had to negotiate the fare). I changed USD3 with the hotel personnel and took a minibus to the city and another one minibus (at another minibus station (bound for Maramvya) and got down at the roundabout outside the airport and it only cost BUF600+1100 or less than USD1!"
Pearl Residence ★★
"This hotel isn't bad, but check-in service is slow; you have to ask for everything multiple times. The food in the restaurant is unappetizing, and breakfast is very average. You can, however, order good coffee. The location is by the lake, but there's nothing much around – just a couple of odd cafes and restaurants in neighboring hotels."
Kiriri Garden Hotel ★★★★
"We booked an Executive Suite which was on the third floor with large windows on two sides and great views of the city and Lake Tanganyika in the distance. The suite was large and nicely furnished but there was not one single shelf or drawer for clothes. These are the good features but now for the long list of bad. The water in the sink and shower was a trickle and the temperature was impossible to adjust, so it was always either scalding hot or very cold. It took three complaints to reception before they finally fixed the pressure a little but not the temperature on our last of three nights. There was no box of tissues or slippers and when we called to ask for them we were told to use toilet paper, or they are available for sale in the hotel shop. There were no amenities whatsoever. The first night my wife and I both ordered the local grilled Capitaine fish, which we’ve had many time in other countries on this 7 week African trip and loved, but here we think the fish washed up on shore after it died of old age. The wine prices are very high even for mediocre wines but I suppose that’s because of import duties. Service was very slow and unfriendly to boot. The staff are very poorly trained, actually not really trained at all. Only one young, female server ever smiled and made us feel welcome. The breakfast buffet is poor especially for an alleged 5 star hotel. In the afternoon it took forever for the waiter to understand that my wife wanted a glass of wine and not a whole bottle, and that’s even though we speak French. On the last night, after a big lunch, we just split a $25 pizza for dinner and it gets the award for the absolute worst pizza ever, one that we suspect was a commercial frozen one. We loved Burundi, which far exceeded our expectations but this hotel was horrible."
Burundi Palace Boutique Hotel ★★★
"It's quite good, I will stay here again next time, it's really good. The location is in the center of Bujumbura, Burundi, and it's convenient to take a taxi, there is one downstairs."
Hotel Hibiscus ★★★
"A but loud from nearby clubs till 10pm weeknights and 1:30am weekend nights. Good location to bars, restaurants, atms. 30K bif taxi to the lake. Good breakfast, great staff. Hug oroblem though is they locked the door at midnight so it is difficult or impossible to get back in or leave again if you want to be out past that time."
Roca Golf Hotel ★★★★
"Pleasant hotel, which had its heyday, and has not necessarily aged well. The room remains very simple, relatively clean, the bed equipped with a mosquito net. The meals are average, with a basic menu. The breakfast buffet is okay, nothing more. CB payments depend on the goodwill of connections with banks...and for greater security, choose to carry cash with you."
Goodlife Residence ★★★
"Feel at home while experiencing a complete change of scenery! Ideally located in the mountains, surrounded by greenery, with a magnificent view of the lake. High-quality construction, tastefully decorated, comfortable rooms, well-designed layout, and above all, exceptionally clean and well-maintained. The experienced and well-trained staff are attentive to your needs and available while remaining discreet. Laura, the concierge, is an endless source of excellent recommendations and solutions. In addition to being very kind and professional, she understands your needs and isn't afraid to go the extra mile for the well-being of her guests. To truly feel like you're in a hotel, you can ask the chef to prepare your meals (I highly recommend his beef with vegetables – a delight!) or, if like me you enjoy cooking, the well-equipped American-style kitchen is always available. Furthermore, the spacious and comfortable dining room is at your disposal. (Don't hesitate to ask Laura for good places to buy your food; you'll find a wide variety of quality meats and vegetables.) Pierre, the owner, is a very cultured man who knows the country well; in fact, he built the hotel himself. He lives on the premises and ensures that everything is always well-maintained and that the staff provides consistently high-quality service. He has thought of everything to ensure his guests have everything they need for their comfort and safety. Whether traveling alone, as a couple, or with family, Goodlife Residence is the perfect place to stay in Bujumbura!"
Martha Hotel ★★★
"I stayed at Maratha hotel for six nights. The staff at the front desk were friendly and provided an efficient check in. The room was really lovely with good view. The linens on the bed were very comfortable and clean. The staff were excellent and most of the time they ordered a taxi to take me around. I had a wonderful stay and would recommend to anyone staying in the Bujumbura."
