"My wife and I stayed at the Astoria Hotel in early July 2026, and we had a disastrous experience. The hotel's guest rooms are not thermally insulated or equipped with climate control. Judging by the condition, the window in our room was probably installed back when Karlovy Vary was the Austrian Carlsbad, before the First World War (photo attached). There's no climate control in the room. As a result, the hotel gives its guests the choice between suffering heatstroke, breathing heavily from the stale air, or listening to the city's nightlife through the wide-open window. Given the window's ancient condition, it is unlikely to provide sound insulation. We chose to listen to the nightlife through an open window. With the city's nightlife dying down a bit by 04:00 and the first trucks arriving and unloading groceries at 06:00, we were close to hallucinations by the time we reached the end of our hotel stay. The lack of thermal insulation at the Astoria Hotel violates the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (Directive (EU) 2023/1791). The hotel administration explains the lack of climate control by noting that the Astoria Hotel building is a historic monument and that they cannot install a climate-control system. I can't believe the Astoria Hotel administration is so lazy that they can't verify information online. The search query "What are the options for installing climate control systems in buildings designated as historical monuments?" returns many options for installing climate control systems in historic buildings, including Small-Duct High-Velocity (SDHV) Systems, Ductless Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF), and Invisible/Through-the-Wall Monoblocks. Most likely, the management of the Astoria Hotel ignores the elementary life requirements of its clients. I can't believe the Astoria Hotel rooms could be officially certified as four-star. These self-proclaimed four stars are probably a marketing ploy to deceive customers. In the EU, including the Czech Republic, official hotel ratings are standardised by the Hotelstars Union, which has no information on the Astoria Hotel, thereby confirming the likelihood that the hotel's self-proclamation of a four-star rating is unfounded. I categorically do not recommend the Astoria Hotel for people who don't like heat strokes due to the lack of climate control, two or three hours of sleep due to the lack of soundproofing, and the potential for deception by the administration."

"The hotel is located on top of hills, which is not so convenient for travelers with luggage. There are 3 buildings within the hotel, 2 of them connected. The indoor swimming pool, sauna, and jacuzzi are in building 2. My room is in building 3, seems to be newly renovated. Spacious space for a single room with a view of wood forest and next castle building. The toilet and shower room are separated. Only 1 body-and-hair shampoo is provided. But the soundproofing is not so great, you may hear the talking and laughing from the nest room clearly at night. The front desk gentleman is so kind and attentive, highly appreciated for his service. The breakfast is average and could be crowded during holidays."

"The hotel is located in a beautiful forest setting, with a beautiful golf course right next to the hotel. Peace and quiet. The hotel rooms are of a good standard. Now, a few comments: The hotel has no air conditioning; there's only ventilation and a large ceiling fan in each room. However, in very hot weather, the room gets hot. Breakfast is repetitive. The cakes are good. The biggest drawback is the frozen bread from the supermarket, which is hard and not very tasty. I think the hotel should order bread from a local bakery. The salad mixes are stale, and the selection of three cold cuts is always the same. You can't order anything from the menu at the hotel, which is available on the hotel website. There are daily lunch menus for around CZK 300, and dinners are also available. The price is €25 per person. The food is served in warmers: one pasta, potatoes, fish, and two types of meat. There is also soup and some desserts. The hotel's guests are mostly families, with children of all ages, and no ice cream is available. A single freezer with ice cream would be a hit; it's a shame no one thought of that. There are no kettles or drinking water in the room. For longer stays, you have to buy water additionally from the store. The TV in the room is very small, maybe 30 inches. This should be a higher standard these days. In a room for three people – parents and a teenager – a fold-out bed is provided. It's a shame that at this price, a child has to sleep on a creaky metal bed. Why is there no fold-out sofa? The spa area runs out of drinking water at 6 p.m., even though it's open to guests until 9 p.m. No one refills the hot or cold water to make tea or coffee. The overall impression is okay, but attention to detail is lacking."

No taste and the breakfast is so untasty that I left half times out. The personnel pretends to speak some German or English, but most impotant sentense is, ich weiss nicht. Just spend more time to find other alternatives, there are lot in Karlovy Vary."

"It's a great place to stay and we can fully recommend the hotel. The room & bathroom were very clean and spacious. It was also very quiet. Very friendly staff, great breakfast buffet which is also being refilled as soon as something is empty (we were there for 4 days and every day there was something different offered). Parking is available just next to the hotel. The location is perfect, only a few minutes walk to the center and the colonnades. Also not far away from the hotel is a walkway to Jeleni Skok and from there a little hiking path to the Diana tower. We enjoyed our short trip to Karlovy Vary very much and will definitely come back to the Hotel Ontario when we visit the town again."

"Excellent. Hotel was in a great location, clean, staff was helpful and courteous. Room was spacious with balcony, which was very nice. Breakfast spread was also very nice (selection and amount). We were really impressed with the value of the stay here. We did opt to pay extra for the included dinner, which was well worth it. I would rate the dinner 3.5 to 4 out of 5. This is a 160 year old hotel, so expect things to be dated. However the keep it in good shape so that adds to the charm. You will not be disappointed here. I only wish the shower was a bit bigger…other than that, I thought it was great!"
