The Westin Palace, Madrid

Madrid City Center Madrid|0.43km from Fuente Plaza Plateria De Martinez
As a Marriott Titanium / Lifetime Platinum Elite Guest, our family [husband, wife and two young daughters] decided to visit Madrid, Spain to start our month-long 2023 summer vacation in Europe. We spent five (5) nights at Westin Palace Madrid using our Bonvoy points in late May / early June 2023. Please see the thirty-eight (38) photos we posted with this review of all aspects of the hotel. Within days after making our five (5) night stay using Marriott Bonvoy points approximately ten (10) months prior to our arrival date, we emailed General Manager, Pablo Flores and advised him of our future stay as well as our special requests, including our request for an Executive Suite, which would comfortably host our family of four. Within hours of our email, we received a thoughtful reply Paloma Hidalgo, Director of Rooms, whom immediately provided us with a complimentary guaranteed upgrade to an Executive Suite and further, Ms. Hidalgo readily granted all of our other special requests. The prompt response did not come as a surprise to us given how active the management of this property is in reading and promptly replying to past guests on Trip Advisor as well as the Marriott Bonvoy website, which is but a mere sign of management’s commitment to exemplary customer service. Not surprisingly, we were overjoyed with such a response and really looked forward to our future stay at The Westin Palace Madrid. This gorgeous historic hotel is magnificently located in Madrid overlooking the Neptune Fountain and less than a three minute walk to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, less than a five minute walk to the Prado Museum and less than a ten minute walk to the Reina Sofia Museum. It is also extremely close to Retiro Park and is within an easy 15 minute walk to Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and the Gran Via as well as many bars, restaurant, trendy cafés, market and other cultural attractions. You can easily walk everywhere throughout the entire city but public transportation options abound in close proximity to the hotel as well. Our initial visit to the Westin Palace Madrid did not disappoint, especially when the hotel accommodated our extremely early check-in (before 9:00 am). The check-in process with Ms. Hidalgo, Estefanía Martinez, Front Office Assistant Manager and Juan at the reception desk was a breeze. Further, Ms. Martinez was kind enough to personally escort us to our suite and show us all of the features and amenities of same. This was very thoughtful on the part of Ms. Martinez and very much appreciated. Throughout our entire five (5) night stay, Ms. Hidalgo and Ms. Martinez were especially helpful and friendly. We simply loved our Palace Executive Suite with slightly over 1,000 square feet in total space with a sublime view of the Neptune Fountain; it was truly remarkable. Further, upon entering, we discovered that Mr. Flores and his team were kind enough to provide us with several 1 liter bottles of both sparking water (Vichy Catalan) and sti

Heart of Madrid III Museums Theatres Sights

Madrid City Center Madrid|0.21km from Fuente Plaza Plateria De Martinez
The neighborhood is formed by narrow streets which are either pedestrianized or with restricted access to traffic, and pleasant squares such as the Plaza de Santa Ana. This is an area where it is easy to find houses in which towering literary figures of the Spanish Golden Age such as Lope de Vega, Quevedo, Góngora and Cervantes lived and wrote. This is why on the cobbles of many of the streets you'll find inscriptions and brief texts from the works of some of these writers.Another of the charms of the Las Letras quarter is its abundant offer of shops and businesses, which include everything from the most traditional establishments with centuries of history (such as cobblers, silversmiths, and lute-makers) to modern avant-garde venues. You'll also find numerous restaurants and pavement cafes where you can enjoy the gastronomy of Madrid and the popular Spanish custom of 'going out for tapas'.A privileged apartment that overlooks a top roof in the heart of Madrid. This apartment is located in the heart of Madrid and the location is really unbeatable. It's within walking distance of a lot: the Royal Palace, the Prado and the Reina Sofia, the Plaza Mayor and the parks. It is also within walking distance of the Atocha train station (very convenient to visit Aranjuez, Toledo, Segovia,...). Metro stop just outside the building, Van transport from the airport for up to 8 pax for 45 euros, there is public parking in the same building and Low-Cost 200m awayThere are not three rooms as Booking indicates, but the living room has a door and a real bed which transforms the living room into a room with total privacy at night. There is also a large main room with a work table and WIFI with high-speed fiber (600mb). The second room has two single beds and two single bunk beds (4 pax). All mattresses are premium.

Urban Sea Hotel Atocha 113

Close to Atocha Railway Station, we walked to the hotel for about 15 minutes, and should be closer to the entrance. Free freshly ground coffee, tea bags and biscuits are available at the front desk for your own use. The room faces two of our rooms, one to the road and one to the patio. The downside is that there are no trash cans in the room and there is no kettle. We stayed for one night and the next day, I thought it was ok.

This review is for 60 balconies iconic. So, a surprise for me, after reserving on booking.com, is that this is an apart hotel. Positives - the location is AMAZING and the room (we had an appt for 3 people) was EXCELLENT . Staff were very helpful. Very clean throughout. Bed was super comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped. A gorgeous breakfast was delivered every morning. Bread, fruit, yogurts, cereals… Negatives - pool (which had workmen upgrading the roof terrace) was freezing. Naturally, not heated, but attached to hose from mains water. Icy. Personally, not a fan of the frosted glass doors/walls to the toilet. We had a large teenager sleeping on the pull down single bed. Was a bit small. Positives far outweigh the negatives. As long as you don’t have your heart set on swimming, you will not regret staying here.

The room was very comfortable, very clean and perfect for our family of 3. Five stars to the wonderful staff who went out of their way to help us, they answered all of our questions with a smile. Without them it wouldn't be possible to have such a great stay.
Hostal Bruna Paseo del Prado

Excellent location, almost on Paseo del Prado and close to Puerta de Atocha station. The room was not big, but not ridiculously small, with good facilities (private bathroom, good Wi-fi connection). We did not see much of the staff but the room was cleaned every morning when we came back after breakfast (not provided in the hotel). The air-con worked well (no additional charge whatsoever), it should not have been necessary at night but for the noise of other machines when we opened the window.

Disclaimer: this review is written in CAPSLOCK. Arriving at reception around 23:00 we were surprised to hear that our reservation was cancelled. A clerk gave us some business explanation, which we could not fully comprehend from a guest's stand-point, but made a new reservation for us on the spot. However, when we tried to make a payment for the full stay by a 500-euros bill - it was refused. Clerk said that if we will not pay with smaller bills he will not check us in. When I asked him how he could do that despite we had a valid reservation, his response was, literally(!): ”What reservation? You do not have any reservation; your reservation has been cancelled an hour ago.” In other words, he threatened to throw us out. Threatening guests with a valid reservation and means to pay for the stay to throw them out in the middle of the night... If that is not being a scumbag - what is??! Anyhow, after some fairly unpleasant conversation we paid 40 euros - all the money we had except 500-euros bill and some change in coins - as a part of payment for the first night and were told that next morning the issue may be resolved by manager. Needless to say, we had a rather worrisome night. But next morning the things got worse for us. We came to reception willing to pay for the rest of our stay and kindly advised another clerk that we had some ”hiccups” checking-in last night and we have only 500-euros bill as a mean of payment, and we can't possibly exchange it anywhere. To which she responded very disdainfully and arrogantly: ”So what?” And then she ”advised” us to go to the bank to split that bill. As we already had an issue of paying by 500-euro bills in other places across Spain, we already knew that there are no options for tourists to have that bill split in that country - neither in banks, nor in shops, nor elsewhere. (When in one of the banks in Barcelona we were told to go to the Bank of Spain to have a bill split - in the local branch of the bank of Spain we were advised by security guard at the entrance door to ”make an appointment online first”. Needless to say this greatly surprised us: refusing to accept as a mean of payment a bill which is fully recognized as a mean of payment in your country: that should be unlawful - shouldn't it??!) Therefore, we kindly responded that, to the best of our experience, there's nothing we could do, and that she could possibly assist us, her clients? She arrogantly refused to help and commanded ”just go to the bank as others do!” As we already knew that this is the fake ”solution” which lazy hotel-workers suggest to their clients across Spain, we said that if they do not accept that bill and will not give us a proper change - we are not going to pay. To which a clerk threatened us to call a police. ”For what?” - I cried out loud - ”for paying you???” Nevertheless, clerk continued threatening to call a police, and as it was early morning and we did not want to ruin our touristic plans for that day, we wen
