The West Side YMCA is definitely a no frills place to stay, but the location is excellent. You're right next to Central Park and Columbus Circle. Times Square is an easy walk south. We stayed in 2 different rooms. The first had a bunk bed and was quite small, but the bed was comfy and the room was clean. It also had a small TV and fridge. We had a semi-private bathroom, which was down the hall. This meant we had to scan our key on one of the bathroom doors to get in, but once inside we had privacy while we got cleaned up. The bathrooms were kept clean and tidy. We were able to upgrade the second half of our stay to a room with a larger bed and an in room bathroom. Again, this hotel is no frills. It can be rough around the edges, but it's clean and comfortable at the end of a long day of sightseeing. We did not have time to take advantage of the gym, the pool, the sauna, and stuff like that, but they looked nice. I'd recommend the West Side YMCA. If you're visiting NYC, you should be out doing stuff, not sitting around the room. It was everything we needed it to be.

Me and Harlem go way back. Aloft Harlem used to be my go to hotel before I started staying more on the lower east side. In fact, a Marriott employee who used to work at Aloft directed me to this brand new, just opened hotel. I was excited to return to uptown and stay in this spot! I wanted to love this hotel. I don’t like giving lackluster reviews and feeling like a Karen. But over two nights, the transgressions just piled up. I’m a Marriott ambassador who stays in hotels about 240 nights a year. I never bring up my status. This might be the first time I actually uttered in frustration, “it’s September and I’ve already spent 27,000 dollars at these hotels, why is this so hard?” Upon checkin, it took almost an hour. This is even more frustrating because my first night was business and my company always sends a spending authorization. Two days in a row I checked with the hotel to see if they had received the authorization. They lost the first one. They mismanaged the second one. I always call or chat ahead to ensure a smooth checkin. It was still a mess when I arrived. The room was a “Central Park view.” I should have known better; I don’t know why I believed this title. I know New York geography better than that. I was looking into a building. Central Park facing or in the direction of Central Park shouldn’t be called central park view. I had changed from the city view to the Central Park view before arrival and I guess I’m glad I did because while they were trying to figure out my reservation they mentioned they had oversold the city view rooms. I will say the black out shades do a great job. The bed was fine. Sheets were a little co****. This hotel costs close to what a Moxy costs, so their sheets should be comparably smooth and comfortable. The bathroom was an absolute joke. Maybe not all the rooms are like mine, but mine may as well not have had a door. As you can see in my photos, the door is for “art.” There is a huge gap where you can see everything! Like probably 12 inches or greater of a gap! Who designed this and thought it was a great idea?! Glad I was alone. The air unit is SUPER loud. Doesn’t bother me as much since we usually have a fan on at home, but it was so loud that when it came on, I had to turn the TV up. It will likely bother some people. And you can hear everything through the walls. Oh, and the toilet clogged twice. And one of the days, the hot water was off all day for repairs, though that’s out of anyone’s control. It’s just giving context to a very un-relaxing stay. Back to the front desk mess—I later noted a destination fee on my bill (I had two separate bills because one night was business and one was personal). I don’t mind destination fees—I’ve had them at many Marriott properties. But I was never informed of this one. I even asked at the restaurant, and they had no idea. The initial room was DISGUSTINGLY FILTHYand the refrigerator was not working properly. Second room just as FILTHY!!!! Not given another opportunity to change rooms Was promised housekeeping would arrive to rectify the issues. It never happened! Each time I returned from work I found the room with the exact same issues. Front desk was of no assistance. On last night of stay Front Desk employee told me I could come downstairs and get clean sheets to put on the bed. The sheets that were on the bed were stained with bodily fluid and filled with holes. The bedskirt had a large red stain. There was a dead bug under the pillow. The balcony was covered in bird feces. The bathroom had no heat. The chair apolstery had a disgusting stains, some of which appeared to be of sexual activity origin. The bed table lampshade was severely stained. I took photos of everything!!!!! With all of these major issues, the owner sent word to the Front Desk Mgr. Taylor to offer me a 15% refund on my stay! 15% is equivalent to a spit in the face! Sadly, I had not checked reviews of the hotel prior to booking. Over the years I have stayed at several Choice Hotels and only once had issues with the condition of my room and the Manager immediately refunded me for the horrible experience. This hotel in Edgewater is completely unacceptable! I see there are good and even gleaming reviews from many guests so apparently there is a lot of inconsistency in the quality of housekeeping and staff. The breakfast offerings were abysmal!!!! Bargain basement pastries that were stale. No prepared oatmeal. Given packets that I suppose guests are supposed to microwave. Overripe brown bananas. Couldn't even get a cup of decaf coffee because the cannister was broken. Coomon sense would say to use one of the other cannisters to allow decaf drinking guests the same opportunity for coffee! I had to go out and buy breakfast items! Extremely low class establishment primarily staffed with low class employee service. Spare yourself the stress and uncomfortability by booking elsewhere. There is a Hilton within close proximity. I would think better accomodations can be found there. Best wishes to all for safe and enjoyable travels!

Had a brilliant experience here. For such an affordable stay the quality was excellent, the room was lovely, clean and cosy and the services offered were great - kitchen, lounge, computer/library area and laundry room. They also have activities like movie nights which is such a great bonus. The staff were extremely kind - especially Yari - who helped my friend and I when we missed our bus. We really felt taken care of. The location is also great and well connected with a subway station a few minutes away and it felt safe walking home at night. I couldn't believe we found this place and that it was as good as it seemed, especially for NYC! I would highly recommend staying here. The hotel facilities are very new, the interior is clean and comfortable, the service is friendly, and it is very close to the subway station. The only problem is that the location is relatively remote, so we rarely go out at night.

I booked at Nap York Central park in June 2022 for September/October 2022. I chose the discounted flexible rate, as I didn’t see having to cancel or move my dates at all - my flight was paid for. Earlier this month my father suffered a stroke, was diagnosed with cancer, and was told he was in need of an operation on his heart. His quality of living went from active and healthy to in need of 24/7 care overnight. I contacted this property to see if even though the flexible option was non-refundable if there might be some leniency with this as I don’t see being able to travel in the near future, even at a partial refund (mostly for the $500 I already paid to be used for medical bills/needs). You cannot actually call or speak to anyone - they do not have phones. You can only communicate through a chat service. They don’t provide any details as to who you are talking to and my questions as to whether there is a management company I might reach out to were unanswered, and then I was just told ‘we don’t have phones’. After explaining my situation, they let me know they would not refund anything but would move the dates. According to my original booking, I would have six months to reschedule. Speaking to someone through the chat service, I was only given four months to reschedule and many dates blocked out and unavailable to me due to holidays. I pointed out that it was less time than my original booking stated and that went unaddressed, the person let me know that ‘my situation’ (my father possibly terminally ill) ‘was not their responsibility’ and they wouldn’t refund my payment or add any dates (which really would have just been giving me what I should have anyway, not exactly doing me any extra favors) and again - all questions as to whether there is an actual number or company to contact with questions was not provided. While I understand my original request for a refund was outside of the original terms, they don’t even offer the terms that are paid for and clearly stated. I’ve also worked at hotels and lodges in the past to know that they often make allowances for nonrefundable stays in cases of extreme circumstances. Booking.com reached out to try to negotiate and the only response they received was ‘no refund’. I’ve also had travel plans in the past change slightly and have been out money and have not asked for special accommodations or refunds from locations, but with the stress of my father’s health and rising costs, and so suddenly, I was looking for some empathy here. United Airlines is notorious for delayed customer service or non-negotiable refunds and I was able to explain my situation and received a full refund immediately. After some of the language used by whoever manages their chat service, I wouldn’t stay at this location at this point. I've attached some of the reviews on google, as well as management's insane responses (including taunting people about calling the police, or pointing out they don't speak English).

The room is a bit small, but the bathroom area is big enough. In a place like Manhattan where land is expensive, such an area is acceptable. But relative to such a high price, the comfort must still be discounted.

Was unable to get early check in even though requested a few months back when initially booked. But that’s ok, they had a convenient luggage hold. And checkin at the ready time was very smooth! Biggest issue with this specific location, they have over 40 floors of rooms and only 2 elevators. It took forever to catch one anytime coming back to the room.
