SO/ Paris Hotel

Paris|2.86km from Jardin Casque-d’Or
I booked my wife to stay at this hotel recently and she loved it. I needed to be in Paris, and decided to try it myself. It is now the place I will always try to stay in Paris. The great thing about this hotel is that it is a perfect trade-off of price/location. In September, we stayed at the Faubourg Sofitel (also Accor) which is about as 'Prime Paris' as you can get. Right next door to the Elysee. For that, you got a hotel which was about 50% more expensive, for 40% less product. SO/ is central, but a bit on the edge, and for me that is worth every cent of the tradeoff. Additionally, the tradeoff places you right next to the river with views of Paris that are sensational. And anyway you are 5 mins on foot to the Places des Voges - this is still beautiful Paris. Other big pluses: - food quality is really high in Bonnie. We went for dinner and breakfast. Both great. Dinner buzzy, and possible the most beautiful breakfast room views imaginable. In summer.... wow. - rooms are extremely high quality fit out. Bed is incredibly comfortable. Just be aware that there is now bath or desk even if a room which could accomodate it - staff are charming and very well trained. - access by car is easy. Very few people will be driving (but I was). Access is super simple, and the valet parking v reasonable (about Eur40) - I didn't use the gym or pool, but they looked amazing by Paris hotel standards - I loved the design concept of the hotel. It is young and modern without being like a W (which I don't like... trying too hard) I strongly recommend. Thank you SO/ Paris.

Mama Shelter Paris East

Paris|0.65km from Jardin Casque-d’Or
my husband was keen to stay here as he'd had a great stay at Lyon Mama Shelter. What a let down Paris East was. The reception area is lovely - the bedrooms are fabulous. Check in was great and from there on it went downhill. We went downstairs and asked about the advertised roof terrace. Yes it's open but you have to order downstairs and take your own drinks upstairs . ok. first bottle of wine requested not available . 'sorry it's the bar man's day off ' no cocktails available ...not a problem as we don't drink cocktails . second and third wines also the server couldn't locate. eagle eyed husband spotted lots of Pinot Grigio in the fridge behind the bar. can we have that ? no ...it's on the Trattoria stock so we can't have it 🙈😩. look - we're in the hospitality business ourselves it's 5 pm and the trattoria opens at 7 ... but no we can't have it. off we go to the terrace with our wine . it looks untidy and unloved . back down we come to the terrace area to order dinner. the food was disgusting ! my salmon was inedible . my husbands steak was tough and also inedible . again the same problem ordering wine ...the white wine arrived warm . the lady on the table next to us agreed that her food was also terrible . cold jacket potato and overcooked fish. no one asked us what was the matter and £192.00 later charged for dinner we left never to return. all style - no substance ! we run restaurants in the UK and know what we're talking about 😳

I had a really good stay here. The other travellers were really friendly. I felt very safe. We hardly bumped into each other in our rooms due to everybody waking and sleeping at different times, but they were respectful in the morning and nights. The rooms were big and the beds were huge! The shared bathrooms were really clean and modern and the showers were really hot (or cold). It was mostly all students staying here or young people, however I did come across a few older people staying, one in my room. Lots of languages are spoken here. Lots of french mainly. I am English. There was also a Spanish speaking guy in my room, and a guy from Thailand. I stayed for three nights. The first time in a 6 bed female dorm and the last two in an 8 bed mixed room. Everybody is super friendly. The staff are friendly, there's lots of them. And there is big spaces with tables to study or eat and chat with each other.

Great hotel, 6 min walking distance to the metro station. The rooms are spacious and modern. The zone where the hotel is located is quiet and nice. However, there are no elevators and one must use the stairs if your room is on the upper floors, so if you have any mobility issues, I recommend telling the hotel staff so they can assign a ground-floor room to you.

This hotel was perfect for us. A family of 4. We had two separate rooms in a corner of the fifth floor. The rooms had separate doors but one main door beyond could be closed off so we could leave bedroom doors open - suite style. Rooms basic but lovely… clean… comfy beds… sufficient sockets and the shower rooms were great too. Breakfast was excellent. Typical European breakfast with breads, pastries, cheeses, cold meats, cereals and fruit. Lovely freshly squeezed orange juice. Hot drink machine and water cooler available through the day/night. We enjoyed a hot chocolate when we came in each evening. Staff friendly and helpful. Location was perfect for us. 2 min walk to metro station. 35 mins into central Paris and 50 mins to Disneyland Paris in the other direction. Between hotel and the metro station there is a small supermarket, a delicious patisserie and a lovely cafe/ restaurant. We also enjoyed the small market there on Tuesday. Would return in a heartbeat.

We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed it. Although the hotel is located quite far from the city centre it has got plenty transportation options to get there, the closest and fastest is underground but also you can get buses and trams. If you are hungry there are many restaurants and bars around but the breakfast is served at the hotel with a selection of bread, cheese, hams and milk or joghurts, etc. Room was tiny but enough for a couple, it was clean and there were towels, soap and shower gel provided in the bathroom, as well as the hairdryer. Staff very nice and welcoming. We do recommend this hotel, for this price is worth of trying. Remember to pay City tax on the arrival, we paid 15euro for 4 nights for 2 people.
