The welcome was warm, the room was spacious and immaculate and with a sea view! The bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom was spotless and the towels generous. Breakfast was fresh, hot, tasty and generous. All in all, I would classify HQ as a ”find”. The location can't be beat; on a quiet street a block from the promenade and a short walk from many attractions. If you're trying to decide where to stay in Douglas, you can't do better than HQ.

It is worth mentioning that the beef burger in this hotel restaurant is exceptionally delicious. The location of the hotel is not bad, there are many places to go to the pier to transfer. There is also the front desk is very warm.

We chose this hotel because of its location,we had a sea front room ,lovely view.The hotel staff were lovely,very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean and perfect for what we wanted .The food was either a buffet style (hot) or you could choose of the menu ,we ate there twice and then went a little further a field to try something different,the breakfast was excellent .We would definitely stay there again .

Lovely hotel. The service was exceptional, I can't praise the staff enough. The room was cosy and had nice views to the seafront. The breakfast was delicious and there was a good choice (no veggie option but it was still possible to order only the non-meat options like eggs and mushrooms). I would definitely recommend this hotel

The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Manx Electric Railway but a long way from the town centre. There is however a frequent bus service. Our room was on the small side but had everything you would want and was attractively decorated. No sea view as is the case with most of these Victorian seafront hotels as they have only limited frontage; some rooms have side sea view. The shower had limited pressure (we were on the 5th floor) but was very hot. There was one day when the hotel was cold and in immediate response to complaints the heating was taken off the timer and switched to 24 hours. Our room was serviced daily. The food in the restaurant was invariably excellent. Evening meals are ordered at breakfast which reduces waste and improves quality. It also makes service quicker. All staff were friendly and professional - they clearly wanted everyone to have a good time. Reception is not always manned but inquiries can usually be dealt with in the bar next door. This hotel would be a struggle for anyone disabled. There are no ground floor rooms and the single lift stops between floors so that you have to go up or down a few stairs to get to your room, also negotiating 2 heavy fire doors. We would be happy to use the Hydro again.

The location is good but the staff is difficult to reach. The heater doesn't work well

We enjoyed the visit very much. But one thing spoilt it for us....Parking. We expected to be able to park at the hotel or nearby. Free parking Yes. Only for two hours then you have to move. Being disabled this is not easy. You are only allowed two hours in a marked bay. The Blue Badge system is not as per the UK. You can't park on double yellow lines the parking bays for disabled are restricted to two hours. This was a down turn as I was constantly watching my watch!! However the hotel was fine and the staff excellent. We are planning another visit (MINUS THE CAR) In 2025 for our Golden wedding. Location is excellent and local transport good. So consider what I have said before your visit to Douglas IOM. Hilary and Graham
