4 night stay for Vivid. Chose this as an Accor member and that it was close to the Harbour. Upgraded to a Prestige Suite, Club benefits and was not disappointed. Yes the building is not new, it’s not like the shiny new hotels in town, but it’s solid and my sleeps were uninterrupted and rarely heard noise from the hall. My Suite 930 was spacious, clean, well appointed, Sofitel Bed topper and electric sockets to plug in my adapters to charge. Like other reviews no USB ports but I’m sure most sensible travellers have an adapter. The Club Sofitel access was the perfect addition. Early check-in and waited with a hot tea while my suite was made up. It was 9:30am but the room was rushed and 30 minutes later I was unpacking. Evening canapés and drinks from 5:30pm. Table drink service by Alley and her dedicated, personable, attentive team. They remember your preferences pretty quickly and it became an oasis from Vivid hoping and sightseeing. My suite completely blocked out the light and slept through 2 alarms, it’s the Sofitel Bed topper. Breakfast at Club Sofitel, peaceful, plenty of options to choose from, salmon and capers to a great gluten free station, eggs cooked to order and a great way to start the day. Try the Dilmah Blood Orange and Eucalyptus tea. Thanks Lara. Afternoon Tea served from 2:30 and daily sandwiches , scones, cakes and complimentary drinks, tea, coffee and soft. On entering the Club Lounge, always a friendly greeting, your preferred drink served and a relaxing space anytime of the day. The Club team really made my stay, they work really hard to make your stay great. Housekeeping always made up my room before my afternoon return. Always a Bonjour as you walked past them in the hall. My stay was great. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The Lobby is grand and the history of this hotel makes her great. Not the newest but I prefer tradition and good honest service. Definitely not the style of hotel for everyone but my expectations were met and exceeded beyond imagination. Club Sofitel is a must. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Room initially appeared well presented with good basic amenities and good central location for what we needed. Bathroom with large shower and good water pressure. Bed comfy.Front reception staff friendly and helpful. Parking close by (although a bit of a rabbit warren to get to / from car park, you also may need to tell parking staff that you a a guest of the hotel to get in as it also has public parking and fills up). The negatives I noted that bedside table had a couple marks (looked greasy/ hadn’t been cleaned properly) otherwise the room appeared clean to me. The tea and coffee looked like it was skimped (box showing 4 pods of coffee only had one). Friend in different room had similar experience and their soap was empty. Heard another guest complain about the cleanliness of their room to front reception whilst I was waiting in the lobby. For me the real surprise was being charged for things I didn’t use in the minibar. I rang them once I was home and reception told me it wasn’t an error, and the bill would remain (however they said ‘we will check’). I had one drink, not 3… unless I drank them whilst asleep! This is actually the action which motivated me to review this hotel, so others know to be careful. The charge won’t break my bank account but I feel like I have been shortchanged. I think all the issues with the hotel are with housekeeping, I won’t stay again though due to the minibar charges. If the housekeeping improved (cleanliness, refilling consumables and not charging guests for items not used) it has potential to be a nice hotel.

I just checked out of room 603 at Castlereagh. I booked three rooms for myself and a couple of colleagues with location and price being the main reason for choosing this hotel. The location was definitely the best thing about it but not enough to come back. I don’t mind that check in was a bit slow, the phones didn’t work to call reception, my window was broken and had to be forcefully shut by staff. These things are annoyances that I can live with. All I want in a room is a clean, quiet and dark place to sleep. This hotel definitely wasn’t quiet nor dark. There were no block out blinds so the light streamed into the room at around 6:30am each morning. Even this would have been fine if I had a good night’s rest which was impossible with the construction site literally on the other side of the wall to my room. There was no mention of it when booking or checking in. I probably should have realised when there were two pairs of ear plugs in the bedside table…not a good sign. I find ear plugs really uncomfortable so had to play white noise on full blast on my phone. Even then, the construction noise was still booming through. Full disclaimer: my room was in the worst position out of the three I’d booked. The two other rooms had a room or two separating them from the construction while mine was right next to it. They also had issues with the noise but not as as bad as what I’d experienced. I recommend this place if you’re a heavy sleeper that can sleep through any noise (think drilling and hammering) in a well lit room. If you’re anything outside of that, I would pay a bit extra and find another place. Yes, this was the cheapest I could find around here but I’m heading home tired, irritated and needing a good night’s sleep.

Was 2 nights with wife and son during the Easter Break. Pretty good and cosy hotel. Friendly employees. Swimming pool was busy, wish it was bigger. Breakfast was great. Prices were reasonable, perfect for our budget.

Amazing hotel. Very heritage but the room has all the modern comforts. Check in staff are friendly and polite. The location is good with lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. Queen Victoria Building and the Darling Harbour is just a 5 minutes walk away. Will definitely come back again on my next visit.

The hotel location is near the subway station and it takes about 15-20 minutes to walk to the Sydney Victoria Shopping Centre / Circular Quay. There is a bus stop downstairs to different places in the city, such as bondi beach. The hotel facilities are average, the beds are very narrow, and I don't like to see the inside of the quilt, other equipment is quite clean.
