"Omiya Kagayaki Hotel: An Unexpectedly Great Stay When I decided to visit a friend in Saitama, I spent a long time browsing booking platforms. Omiya Kagayaki Hotel's ratings weren't amazing, and the reviews were mixed. Some mentioned the onsen's hygiene wasn't great, others complained about a cemetery view from their room. After much hesitation, I booked it, swayed by the 'rooftop infinity onsen' and its 'proximity to the station.' It turned out to be the decision I regretted the least during that trip around Tokyo. It was evening when I arrived at Omiya Station. After exiting, I followed navigation for about five minutes and soon spotted the hotel's unassuming yet distinctive building. Downstairs, there was a convenience store and a well-stocked pharmacy. I later realized how incredibly convenient this location was – if I wanted a late-night snack or forgot something, I could just pop downstairs. Check-in was on the 13th floor, unlike most hotels located on the ground floor. As I pushed open the lobby door, the front desk staff looked up and smiled, instantly washing away half my travel fatigue. Check-in was swift, with no long waits or awkward communication barriers. The staff confirmed my booking in fluent English and, as they handed me the room key, pointed towards the elevators and softly mentioned the onsen's operating hours. Their warmth was just right – not overly effusive, but making you feel genuinely attended to. Upon entering the room, my first thought was: 'It's bigger than I expected.' Having stayed in many cramped business hotels in Japan, Omiya Kagayaki's double room, at least, allowed me to lay my suitcase flat on the floor without blocking the way. The bedding was clean and crisp, the pillows just the right firmness. I'm usually sensitive to new beds, but I slept surprisingly soundly both nights. The window insulation was excellent; practically no street noise came in. What surprised me most was the bathroom. A wet/dry separation design isn't common in business hotels, and the shower pressure was so good I wanted to stay in longer. Hot water arrived quickly. Toiletries were comprehensive, not just those token small packages. But what truly made this hotel worth every penny was the rooftop onsen. Soaking in the hot water that evening, looking out at Saitama's night view through the glass, I felt completely re-energized. In the misty air, a local lady next to me started chatting in Japanese, basically saying she comes every week and the water temperature here is 'just right.' I smiled and nodded; though I didn't understand everything, that sense of relaxation was universal. Notably, the onsen was also relatively accommodating to tattooed guests – you just need to cover them with patches, which is quite rare in Japanese hotels. For travelers with tattoos who want to experience a Japanese hot spring, this small detail will likely be remembered for a long time. Breakfast also deserves a special mention. It offered both Japanese and Western options. The scrambled eggs were particularly good – fluffy and moist; I had two servings each day. While the dishes weren't luxurious, they were plentiful and thoughtfully prepared. I highly recommend adding dried tofu to the miso soup! It was more than enough to start the day full. On check-out day, instead of using the self-checkout machine, I went to the front desk. The staff took my room key, smiled, and said, 'Mata okoshi kudasai' (Please come again). I nodded, thinking to myself: 'I will, see you later, bye!' The quality of a hotel sometimes isn't about how luxurious it is, but whether it makes you feel like 'staying here is hassle-free.' Omiya Kagayaki achieved that. The warmth of the front desk, the cleanliness of the room, the peace and relaxation of the onsen, and the convenience of its location – all these elements combine to create a reason to return."

"The dinner for the 24 solar terms was delicious. There were many rice dishes, and it was quite filling. Since it was a private room, I could really focus on the taste. Personally, I was happy that the amenities included tabi socks, which added to the experience of Japanese attire."

"It was a NIGHTMARE! We were given a room on the 11th floor, but starting at around 4 a.m., we kept hearing noises from the floor above, especially what sounded like constant footsteps. It turned out that the restaurant was on the 12th floor. We understand that the staff needed to prepare breakfast early in the morning, but we had specifically requested a quiet room in advance. Unfortunately, despite our request, we were still placed directly below the restaurant and were woken up by the noise."

"The reception staff were nice. However, there was a water leak from the bathroom faucet in the room. The full-length mirror in the room had six strange black circles on it. There was no signage for the microwave in the elevators and other areas of the hotel (it was mentioned in the room guide if you read it). Other Smile Hotels have a large public bath, but this one did not. Other Smile Hotels don't require you to leave your key at the front desk when you go out, but at this hotel you have to leave it every time you go out, even for a short while, so you can't go out freely. It was disappointing that I had to be so considerate despite paying to stay there, and I couldn't relax. It's strange that Smile Hotels can be so different, but I will not stay at this hotel again."

"The front desk service at this hotel was excellent, especially a lady named Kubo. She was incredibly kind and enthusiastic; I really loved her smile and sincerity. The hotel's decor was also very comfortable and stylish. I was satisfied with everything except for one minor issue: the air conditioning in the room was too cold and blew uncomfortably right over the head of the bed. It was my first time in Omiya Station, and I found it to be very lively with everything imaginable right outside the station—drugstores, Don Quijote, Takashimaya. It’s a great place to stay for connecting to many cities, offering excellent value for money!"

"The hotel is a five-minute walk from Omiya Station, which is a major plus as it's very close to the subway. There are also frequent trains to the city center, and plenty of dining, entertainment, and shopping options nearby, including a beautiful large park! The service was truly outstanding. I asked the front desk for local food recommendations, and they quickly printed out a food map for me. There were quite a few tour groups staying there, but my room was spacious and comfortable, and being on a high floor offered beautiful views. If you need cleaning, you just need to let the front desk know in advance. On the downside, it's quite a distance from central Tokyo, requiring multiple transfers, so you need to pay attention to your directions. Also, there's a cemetery nearby, and you can see it from the room if you open the window. Something to consider if that bothers you."

"The location is super convenient; it's a 5-7 minute walk from the station, so it's not a struggle even with luggage. The room is quite spacious, offering a comfortable and non-cramped stay. The bed was a bit soft. The breakfast experience was excellent. You can choose how your eggs are cooked, and the Eggs Benedict I ordered was delicious. They also had smoked salmon and the hotel's special bottled coffee-flavored milk, which was surprisingly good – I drank two bottles! There was also a live rice ball station. Overall, I had a great stay. It's very convenient for getting around and definitely worth recommending."

"I had a wonderful stay at Yuno Yado Wadoh with a friend, the scenery out there is absolutely beautiful, the staff were so helpful and attentive, the food was so delicious! The staff were all so kind and went above and beyond to help with any issues we had. The public onsen and private open air bath was heavenly. There were also some very fun hiking trails within walking distance from the Ryokan. I would highly recommend this Ryokan as a fun get away from the city to really get to see and experience the countryside of Japan while not having to travel so far."

"The Good: - The hotel is located right next to the train station. - There is a nearby mall with many food options. - The room size is decent and perfectly functional. I found the bed itself to be quite comfortable. - The soundproofing is reasonable. You get occasional, mild train noises during quieter periods, but it wasn't a major disruption. The Not-So-Good: - The pillow really needs addressing. One pillow was hard, while the other was completely limp and offered almost zero support (it felt practically non-existent). - The in-room refrigerator was completely useless. It didn't get cold at all, so don't expect to keep any drinks or snacks chilled."
