"We had been advised by a relative that this hotel on the beach was worth staying at. We had a deluxe room up on the hill across the main road so we were not actually on the beach. However the view of the ocean was fantastic particularly in the stormy weather. Due to the weather we had to drive down to the restaurant for breakfast. Restaurant fully booked out by tour groups for dinner but the tavern about 1.5km down the road saw us right for a meal. The complex seemed to have several different standards of rooms and I think ours was the best."

"A very good hotel. The concierge will provide free valet parking. The front desk staff are also friendly and enthusiastic. They will answer and satisfy all questions. "This is a small place, don't make too many demands. The hotel is a super historic hotel, things are relatively old, don't mess it up. The proprietress is also very friendly and tells you all the information. Of course, wifi does not work well. . I am the spark phone booth outside. Of course, if you change your mindset, look at the scenery more and use less Wi-Fi. Make dinner by yourself and cook everything. Opposite is the lake with nice scenery, it's good to go for a walk."

"We were greeted with warm hospitality by the owner Angela when we arrived to check into Franz Josef Oasis.
The executive king suite room was clean, cosy and spacious. We enjoyed sitting on the sofas with warm blankets place for our comfort near the fireplace.
The location of this place is also good as it 5 minutes drive to the town where we had a delicious dinner at Blue Ice Restaurant and Bar which was recommended to us by Angela.
The service is excellent and I will definitely recommend this place to those who are travelling to Franz Josef !"

"The hotel's location was fantastic, right next to the glacier. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained, but the hotel itself, including its furnishings, is quite dated. This is why I deducted points for the furnishings, especially since they weren't very clean (dirty kettle, broken refrigerator, iron covered in limescale). The room and bathroom, however, were clean. The service team was friendly but not very well-coordinated. The portion sizes were good, and the food tasted good. The restaurant could have been cleaner; there were still crumbs from breakfast on the windowsills in the evening. It's okay for a short stop, but it no longer meets modern standards."

"Got in late and left early. Met by the very friendly owner and shown to my room and the features were well explained.
The room was spacious, clean, well appointed and the bed very comfortable.

We were greeted with warm hospitality by the owner Angela when we arrived to check into Franz Josef Oasis.
The executive king suite room was clean, cosy and spacious. We enjoyed sitting on the sofas with warm blankets place for our comfort near the fireplace.
The location of this place is also good as it 5 minutes drive to the town where we had a delicious dinner at Blue Ice Restaurant and Bar which was recommended to us by Angela.
The service is excellent and I will definitely recommend this place to those who are travelling to Franz Josef !

Guest UserMaybe it's the off-season, so there weren't many guests. The biggest plus was the very new bathroom. The room was small, and there were no kitchen facilities. A small fridge hung awkwardly over the sink, which was really inconvenient. The closet was so packed with an ironing board and other items that there was hardly any space to hang clothes.

The room was old and musty. The facilities are poor, there is no restaurant, and you have to drive to another motel restaurant nearby to eat (although there is a 10% discount). Parking is very convenient, just parked at the door of the room.

TECKBW8Our stay at Haka House Franz Josef was a great experience overall.
The property has a lively, social atmosphere that makes it easy to meet fellow travellers, yet it still offers quiet corners for those who prefer downtime.
The common areas are spacious and well-kept, with a cozy lounge and kitchen facilities that make self-catering simple.
The location is excellent—right in the heart of Franz Josef, within walking distance to cafes, shops, and the glacier activities.
The bunk room we stayed in was basic but clean, with comfortable beds but limited storage and stuffy!
It’s easy to see why it’s such a popular spot in town.

The apartment we stayed in was quite new and felt pleasant. Rooms are quite spacious and clean. The Kitchen was new and well equiped. It’s in a small township near Fox Glacier. There was a view point, which was about a few minutes driver from the motel, where the view of the snow peaks and glacier was spectacular. It is also not far from Franz Joseph glacier.

The season I came here is the end of spring and the beginning of summer. This season, the starry sky is very beautiful. We drove from the mountain to the accommodation. The environment on the road without light damage is even more beautiful. There are some lights in the hotel, but you can still see a good starry sky.

MattyFIt is alright, but not great - certainly it is worn around the edges. It is the first place I stayed in during my 3 week holiday with no fridge... So much for the by now warm riggers of beer I bought at breweries en route. The service was never with any kind of smile. The food in their restaurant was adequate and the beer was, to my taste, bland and unexciting. Staying here is not a disaster, but nor is it memorable. For the amount they must make (the room was not inexpensive) they could and should do better. But I guess it is a captive market in season, and ”just about good enough” is all they need to bother with.
