Baotou's 'Little Potala Palace' | Wudang Zhao

💫 Are you still worried about altitude sickness when visiting the Potala Palace? Here's a recommendation: Wudang Zhao, one of the three major Tibetan monasteries along with Ta'er Monastery in Qinghai and the Potala Palace in Tibet! 🏯 Wudang Zhao, in Mongolian 'Wudang' means 'willow tree'; originally named Badagar Zhao, meaning 'white lotus'. It was founded during the Qing Emperor Kangxi's reign (1662-1722), and was rebuilt in the fourteenth year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1749), when it was given the Han name Guangjue Temple. The first living Buddha, Luobusangjia Lazo, built it based on Tibet's Tashilhunpo Monastery, and through expansions during the Kangxi, Qianlong, Jiaqing, Daoguang, and Guangxu periods, it gradually expanded to its current size. It is located on a hillside in a valley called Wudang Gou, on a slope of a mountain called Aobao Mountain, hence it is commonly known as Wudang Zhao. Wudang Zhao faces south according to the terrain. It has more than 2,500 rooms including various halls, scripture halls, and monks' quarters, covering over 300 acres, distributed along a 1.5-kilometer-long hillside. It is a white building constructed in layers along the mountain, surrounded by mountains, and sheltered by green pines and cypresses, majestic and spectacular. 💙 Wudang Zhao is located in Shiguai District, Baotou City, Inner Mongolia, and is about an hour's drive from the city center. The event is one of the Wudang Zhao Mani prayer activities. On the first day of the eighth lunar month every year, Wudang Zhao holds a 'Buddha Sunning' event. The giant thangka of the Buddha that is sunned during this event is 20 meters high and 16.8 meters wide, the largest in Inner Mongolia.
