Five hours on an e-bike with someone who knows the city and lives in it, from the centre of Barcelona to the top of its highest hill. The motor takes care of the climbing, so the ride stays easy and you can pay attention to what’s around you.
We start on Passeig de Gràcia, past Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, then head up into Gràcia to Casa Vicens, the first house Gaudí designed, long before the Sagrada Família made his name. From there we ride to Torre Bellesguard, a quieter Gaudí house built where Martí l’Humà, the last king of the House of Barcelona, once had his residence, and along the edge of Park Güell for the mosaics and a photo.
Then the streets give way to the pines of Collserola, and the road climbs to Tibidabo. At the top you have the Sagrat Cor church and Barcelona laid out from the mountains to the sea. The name comes from the Latin Bible, “tibi dabo”, I will give you: the devil’s offer of everything visible from a high place. Up there, it’s easy to see why someone chose it. The ride back down is the easy part.
