Reviews: Kyoto Arashiyama in-depth 1-day tour, pick-up and drop-off in Kyoto and Osaka, bamboo forest path, Togetsukyo Bridge

This Arashiyama + Sanzenin itinerary was fantastic! Traveling with kids, the temperature reached nearly 37 degrees Celsius that day, but it was at least 3-4 degrees cooler inside Sanzenin. Sanzenin was lush and green, and many people were taking photos there. Arashiyama was much more crowded than Sanzenin, so I recommend having lunch there; many restaurants only accept cash, so remember to bring cash! For those traveling with young children, it's best to book Arashiyama Scenic Railway tickets in advance. Ask the travel agency's customer service about the most convenient time to book. The round trip by train takes one hour. We even saw people rafting from the train, but we didn't have time. Maybe next time! A special mention goes to our tour guide, Liu Ling; she was incredibly helpful on the train, providing explanations and even taking us to the station before the train departed. On the return trip, she gave the children Arashiyama refrigerator magnets.

Reviews: Kyoto Day Tour: Arashiyama + Sanzen-in + Kifune Shrine (Departure from Osaka or Kyoto | Optional Hotel Pickup / Small Group with Sagano Romantic Train)

Having visited Kyoto several times, I finally realized I should explore more attractions instead of just stopping at Hanamikoji, Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi, Inari, and Nishiki Market. So, I joined a small day tour to see three places I'd never been before. Since many Kyoto attractions are scattered, it's really inconvenient to visit several places in one day without a car. Sanzen-in Temple, Kifune Shrine, and Arashiyama—if I had to choose, I'd visit Sanzen-in Temple multiple times; it's so beautiful! Of course, early September isn't peak autumn foliage season, so Arashiyama wasn't at its most beautiful. Personally, I felt that without the autumn leaves, the place resembled Anji or Tonglu in Zhejiang—green mountains, clear water, and bamboo forests, nothing particularly special. The small tour departed from Osaka, which was especially convenient for us living in Kyoto, as we could sleep in a little longer, have breakfast, and wait for the tour bus to pick us up. The driver even arranged for me to be a tour guide on the spot, giving me tickets for the Sagano Scenic Railway and letting me lead nine people on a round-trip train journey and arrange seating. It was quite fun.

Our tour guide, Oscar, is young but experienced. He departs on time and provides engaging commentary in both Chinese and English throughout the day. He sends real-time information about attractions, meeting times, and parking locations to all tourists, making it easy for everyone to plan their visit. The itinerary is also well-balanced, making it a very worthwhile trip!

Shine was an outstanding tour guide! Extremely knowledgeable and engaging, sharing fascinating local stories like how Japan educates kids from a young age on recycling and keeping the city clean. Shine also demonstrated excellent group management to keep us all on schedule throughout the day, and even shared helpful local recommendations with us after the tour finished. Fantastic service 10/10!

Reviews: Check off Osaka & Kyoto attractions | Katsuo-ji daruma + scenic Arashiyama in Kyoto + pilgrimage to Kinkaku-ji

A little fast paced but it hits the mark . If you get Charlie; you will get an entertaining history lesson in the bus. He is rather jovial. And is genuinely concerned about the well being of everyone .
