This once nearly abandoned station gained nationwide fame and even international recognition thanks to a cat named Tama. The line features three themed trains: Tama, Strawberry, and Toys. Besides the feline stationmaster, the station also houses a cat café, cat-themed stamps, and a cat house. The charming old station is beautifully decorated and sells various adorable merchandise, making it a must-visit spot for cat lovers.
▲ In 2006, due to labor cost issues, Wakayama Electric Railway implemented the "cat stationmaster" system at Kishi Station, officially appointing an 8-year-old calico cat named Tama, who resided at the station, as the stationmaster. The stationmaster "worked" daily by patrolling the station and warmly welcoming visiting passengers. Its adorable image quickly gained media attention, attracting a large number of visitors to come and take photos.
