Great! The tour guide noticed that there were only two of us and booked us for a Mandarin-speaking tour. It was a very thoughtful tour guide.

What a wonderful, dreamlike day! Most people visiting New Zealand only choose the South Island, and it is indeed beautiful. But I found the North Island even more breathtaking, not because of the scenery, but because of its humanistic care. The deepest impression New Zealand left on me was its deep appreciation for nature, its indigenous culture, and the land itself. And what's amazing is that when a place is willing to earnestly protect these things, they seem to give back to the land in another way. I thought of Hobbiton. Back when *The Lord of the Rings* was being filmed, this land welcomed the film crew, preserving that world that originally belonged only to the story. Perhaps no one could have predicted that a film would later influence the entire world, nor could they have imagined that years later, countless film fans would still travel halfway around the globe just to see the Shire in person. Thus, a world once created for a film has become a reason for countless people to come to New Zealand. The kindness between people and the land seems to truly leave a mark. And after experiencing Maori culture, this feeling became even stronger. Colonial history is never a simple, gentle story, and New Zealand, too, has experienced conflict, plunder, and suffering. But what touched me was that, at least today, this society is still willing to rediscover Maori culture, allowing the Maori language, traditions, rituals, and their understanding of the land to continue to exist in modern life. In Maori culture, I felt a deep reverence for nature. The patterns on their clothes, their songs, dances, carvings, and the stories passed down through generations all seemed connected to the land, the sea, their ancestors, and all of nature. It wasn't about "conquering nature," but about knowing that they were originally part of nature. This devotion deeply moved me. Because when a people earnestly protect their culture, memories, and land, these things ultimately nourish them in return. The culture is seen by more people, the land is cherished by more people, and people are thus reaffirming where they come from and what their relationship is to the world. How to put it… after this trip to the North Island, looking back, I actually felt a little tearful. To think that there truly is a land in this world that retains the appearance of Hobbiton; to think that there truly are people in this world who revere nature in this way, coexisting with the land, the ocean, the forest, and all things; to think that the world is so vast, and that in places I don't know, so many different cultures, beliefs, and lifestyles exist earnestly... Just knowing that these beautiful things truly exist in this world makes me feel incredibly happy. There are many definitions of happiness. Fame and fortune can be happiness, a life of luxury can be happiness, and possessing more things can certainly be happiness. But here, I suddenly feel—if I could feel, like them, a genuine connection between myself and the land, nature, my ancestors, and all things in the world, perhaps that would also be a very pure kind of happiness.

Reviews: Hobbiton, Rotorua & Te Puia Small Group Guided Day Tour
Guest User2026-10-10
The tour far exceeded my expectations. The van was very comfortable and the sound system for hearing the guide was excellent. The guide Jeoffrey was very knowledgeable about many subjects, including New Zealand and Māori history, customs and culture, geology, geography, New Zealand economy and industry, indigenous and invasive plants and animals, Māori language, current trends, etc. I felt that I learned a lot from Jeoffrey and now have a much better understanding of New Zealand and a far greater appreciation for its natural beauty. Jeoffrey went the extra mile in accommodating the tour members, providing excellent restaurant recommendations, and even delivering my cell phone I inadvertently left in the van to me at my restaurant table. You are in for a treat if you have Jeoffrey as your guide.
