Meeting a Good Guide, Understanding the Millennia-Old Dujiangyan Irrigation System – A Tribute to Tour Guide Da Chun The greatest fortune of my trip to Dujiangyan was meeting my tour guide, Da Chun. At the end of the trip, my heart was filled with warmth, and I wrote this to express my heartfelt gratitude to this knowledgeable, sincere, and excellent guide. Many tourists visiting Dujiangyan only see the rushing river and the ancient embankments, finding it difficult to grasp the intricate water management logic of the Fish Mouth, Flying Sand Weir, and Treasure Bottle Mouth. But following Da Chun, the wisdom of a thousand years of water conservancy became clear and easy to understand. He never rigidly recited his explanations; instead, he used the surrounding mountains and rivers, combined with real-life scenes, to eloquently explain the grand vision of Li Bing and his son in water management. The ingenious design of damless water diversion, the 4:6 water distribution, and the 2:8 sand removal was broken down layer by layer with relatable stories. Passing by the Erwang Temple and the Anlan Suspension Bridge, he naturally shared ancient Shu history, western Sichuan folk customs, and Taoist culture, rich in anecdotes, solid in historical facts, and full of humor. The elderly and children in our group listened with rapt attention, moving beyond a superficial sightseeing experience to truly understand this living wonder of the world's water conservancy. What was most reassuring was Dachun's pure professionalism. The entire tour involved zero shopping stops, no hidden sales pitches, and no visits to any shops that offered freebies. He simply provided objective recommendations for authentic local snacks and sincerely shared practical tips to avoid pitfalls. He patiently and calmly answered everyone's numerous questions, never being perfunctory or impatient, and was very adept at creating a lively atmosphere, ensuring laughter throughout the trip. We could genuinely feel his heartfelt love for Dujiangyan, and his passionate discussion of its thousand-year history touched everyone in our group. It was an unforgettable journey, with natural scenery as its foundation, and a reliable guide giving the landscape its soul. Without Dachun's professional and engaging explanations and attentive companionship, we would have only superficially appreciated the scenery, unable to truly grasp the millennia-old craftsmanship of Dujiangyan and the profound wisdom of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. Da Chun, with his solid knowledge of history, conveyed profound cultural heritage while meticulously safeguarding the travel experience, fully demonstrating the professionalism and warmth of an excellent tour guide. We sincerely recommend Da Chun to tourists planning a trip to Dujiangyan! We wish Da Chun all the best and hope he continues to tell tourists from all over the world the legendary story of water management in Sichuan. A perfect travel experience! I'll definitely choose Da Chun again next time!
