National Maritime Museum of China

Located on the coast of the Bohai Sea in Tianjin's Binhai New Area, the National Maritime Museum of China is a comprehensive maritime museum integrating collection, exhibition, research, and education, and is known as the "Forbidden City on the sea." The white, streamlined main building stretches out along the coast, resembling a giant ship docked at the shore when viewed from afar. The sea outside the museum is vast and open, and the building itself is a photo spot worth stopping for. The museum's exhibits revolve around the theme of "oceans and humanity," with six major zones and more than a dozen exhibition halls, each with its own highlights. In the "Oceans Today" hall, a whale shark specimen over 9 m long is astonishing in scale, a giant squid plastination specimen stretches out its slender tentacles, and together with a rare pregnant shark specimen and thousands of marine life specimens, the diversity of ocean life is presented with striking visual impact; "Ancient Oceans" starts from the birth of the Earth, with trilobite and ichthyosaur fossils linking the evolutionary thread of hundreds of millions of years; "The Age of Dragons" recreates the sea, land, and air scenes of the Mesozoic era, and the ichthyosaur and pterosaur fossils and dinosaur models are especially popular with children; "Chinese Maritime Civilization" and "From Sails to Star Wheels" trace humanity's journey from ancient navigation to modern scientific research. The "Oceans and Astronomy" hall with its starry dome and the experience hall where visitors can intuitively feel the power of marine disasters are also among the museum's most popular exhibits. The museum has a very high content density, and a thorough visit takes more than half a day. It is recommended to arrange your route from the first floor upward, viewing ancient fossils first and then modern marine life, so that those interested in paleontology, marine life, and maritime history can each find what they need.China · Tianjin

Hai Shang Yuntai Mountain is the legendary immortal mountain of the East Sea—Yingzhou. It is located in Hou Yuntai Mountain, Lianyun District, Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, and consists of 58 peaks including Yun Mountain, Weiping Mountain, Weijian Mountain, Lüduan Mountain, and Sucheng Mountain. The main peak, Da Weijian, at an elevation of 605.4 m, is the second-highest peak in Jiangsu. To its north lies the Oriental Great Port Lianyungang, the starting point of the New Eurasian Land Bridge; to its south is Sucheng Subdistrict, ranked among China's top ten villages and towns for slow travel and known as a "hidden paradise." The main attractions in the scenic area include: Wanshou Valley, East China's largest pristine catalpa forest flower sea; the bamboo sea wonderland "Wudao Nunnery"; the Fazhi Temple, where the Buddha comes from the sea and which is the foremost monastery of the Huaihai region; and the "Yuntai Divine Eagle," totem of the Shaohao kingdom, the oriental kingdom of birds. Compared with inland mountains, Hai Shang Yuntai Mountain is unique in that while walking along the plank roads on the mountain, you can see the beautiful Yellow Sea. The great Song dynasty poet Su Dongpo praised it in his poem "Writing My Thoughts on the Sea": "Lush Cangwu, the mountain on the sea, Penglai and Fangzhang lie somewhere between presence and absence; I have long heard that all the plants and trees there are immortal herbs, and I wish to abandon wife and children to guard the marketplace."China · Lianyungang

Qianfo Mountain Scenic Area

12k reviews
Qianfo Mountain Scenic Area is located in the southern part of Jinan's city center and is one of the three major attractions in Jinan. Before the Zhou Dynasty, it was called Lishan Mountain. Legend has it that Emperor Shun cultivated farmland at its base, hence it's also known as Shungeng Mountain. During the Sui Dynasty's Kaihuang era, numerous Buddha statues were carved along the mountain slopes, and the "Thousand Buddha Temple" was built, giving rise to its current name. In 1959, it was developed into a park, recognized as a provincial-level scenic area in 1995, rated as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction in 2005, and designated as a national scenic area in 2017. The Qianfo Mountain Scenic Area covers an area of 164.88 hectares, with its highest peak reaching 285m in elevation. Its undulating ridges create a picturesque and magnificent landscape. Qing Dynasty writer Liu E once vividly described it in "The Travels of Lao Can" as "resembling a grand painting by Song Dynasty artist Zhao Qianli, stretched across the horizon like a magnificent screen spanning dozens of miles." Qianfo Mountain Scenic Area boasts a profound historical and cultural heritage, centered around the culture of Emperor Shun, Buddhist traditions, and natural ecology. It stands as a renowned mountain where Buddhist culture and imperial heritage coexist. As one of the birthplaces of Shun culture, the mountain gained fame when Emperor Shun cultivated its slopes. The attraction preserves cultural landmarks like Lishan Academy, Shun Temple, Three Saints Hall, Dushun Stone Garden, and Lishan Origins. Its Buddhist heritage dates back to the Sui and Tang dynasties, with notable sites including Xingguo Temple and the Thousand Buddha Cliff carvings. The scenic area features exceptional natural beauty with ancient trees and attractions like Chrysanthemum Viewing, Lishan Panorama, Ancient Scholar Tree, Southern Red Cliffs, and Ciyun Exploration. Distinctive folk traditions include the March 3rd Temple Fair and September 9th Mountain Festival, both recognized as intangible cultural heritage. Combining rich cultural significance with abundant natural resources and prominent geographical value, this urban mountain landscape serves as Jinan's "city balcony," "natural oxygen bar," and "ecological paradise," offering residents leisure and fitness opportunities rarely found within a metropolitan area. In recent years, the Qianfo Mountain Scenic Area has achieved remarkable development. Since 2011, annual environmental upgrades have enhanced ecological landscaping, highlighted historical and cultural themes, and elevated the overall views and cultural value of the attraction. In 2013, the Qilu Stele Culture Garden—a Jinan-based theme park showcasing Shandong's finest stone inscriptions—was built at the mountain's southern foot. Since 2014, to promote Shun culture, attractions like the South Wind Pavilion, Homesickness Pavilion, Qingyun Pavilion, and Lishan Origins were added, forming a 10-site Shun culture trail with distinctive Spring City characteristics. This integration of history, culture, and scenery has created a comprehensive, large-scale destination beloved by visitors.China · Jinan

Qingdao Site Museum of the Former German Governor's Residence

The Qingdao Site Museum of the Former German Governor's Residence, also known as the Guest House and commonly referred to as the Governor's Mansion, is located at the southern foot of Signal Hill. Built in 1905 and completed in 1907, it originally served as the official residence of the German governor of Jiaozhou Bay. Designed by German architect Lazarowicz, it blends the architectural style of the Wilhelmine era with Jugendstil techniques. Architect Liang Sicheng praised it as a monumental work of architectural art that integrates multiple cultural concepts from East and West. The entire mansion features a castle-like design with four floors and dozens of rooms, now open to the public as a museum. The building's exterior is striking enough: yellow walls adorned with large mushroom stones and granite, topped with beige-red barrel tiles, blue fish-scale tiles, and green ox-tongue tiles. The pediment above the main entrance features a radiant sun pattern crafted from rough stone, surrounded by carvings of anchor chains and knots, with a dragon-head stone sculpture—inspired by Norman ship figureheads—jutting out from one side. The color scheme and details make it highly recognizable in Qingdao's old town. Inside, the palace-style wooden decor showcases exquisite carvings and craftsmanship: the central hall spans two floors, lofty and bright, while the banquet hall doubles as a concert hall, complete with an orchestra pit and private boxes. The top features a crystal chandelier with a bronze frame weighing over a ton. At the eastern end lies a steel-framed glass conservatory. The building still displays original furnishings like an old piano, grandfather clock, gun cabinet, and rosewood bed. The tower roof's slope ratio matches that of Ming and Qing Chinese architecture, with glazed tiles adorning the parapet walls, creating a harmonious blend of Eastern and Western elements throughout. It should be noted that photography is generally not allowed inside the museum, so you'll mainly have to rely on the exterior architecture and courtyards for keepsake photos. After the visit, you can conveniently climb the nearby Signal Hill to overlook the old town with its red roofs and green trees, as well as the bay.China · Qingdao

Lianyungang's Yuntai Mountain is a national 4A-level scenic area. Formerly known as Yuzhou Mountain and Cangwu Mountain, it was originally a series of islands in the Yellow Sea, only connecting to the mainland in the 18th century. It integrates five scenic elements: mountains, sea, port, islands, and city. Climbing to the main peak's viewing platform offers panoramic views of Lianyungang Port, the East and West Lian Islands, and the vast sea, earning it the reputation of "Jiangsu's Rio de Janeiro" and a real-life "Shangri-La."

It's unreasonable that there's no free luggage storage. For autumn break in Shenyang, Tianjin is a good destination, not far away. The aircraft carrier was very impressive. Worth seeing. Definitely hire a guide.

Unexpectedly, it was a special session with Teacher Lu. The coordination was very smooth, with a dedicated assistant team. The team members were all dressed formally. Teacher Lu's explanation was witty, humorous, vivid, and captivating. The route was planned according to the historical timeline, and the headset was very clear. Although there were many people, we still managed to see all ten of the museum's most treasured exhibits.

Slowly ascending the stone steps, the mountain breeze carries the scents of cypress and faint osmanthus from the hillside, enveloping you. Looking up, you see the mountainsides a tapestry of autumn colors, with yellow goldenrain leaves and red maple leaves mingling among the evergreen cypress trees, even the stones...

This is my second visit to Qingdao. Last time I brought my dad, this time I brought my mom. The former German Governor's Residence Museum at the foot of Signal Hill was a must-see this time. We chose the Longshan Civil Defense Area underground parking lot. The entrance was fine, but the road leading out of the exit was lined with parked cars on both sides. 🚗 However, after the car ride, it's very close to Signal Hill Park and the former German Governor's Residence. It's not just a beautiful, trendy castle; it was named by Liang Sicheng and hailed as a masterpiece of 20th-century world architecture; it's both a physical testament to modern colonial history, a pinnacle of East-West architectural fusion, and the soul of Qingdao's old city, commonly known as the State Guest House.
