We were given a warm welcome and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was large with a comfortable bed. The pillows could have been better though. The shower was powerful.
We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. All the food was excellent and freshly cooked.
We would stay here again. Thank you.
As regular visitors we always enjoy Slaley Hall.
The hotel has a lovely atmosphere, from a warm welcome at Reception to check out.
The staff are all very pleasant and helpful.
The facilities are good, as are the food and rooms.
The location is good, perhaps the only downside is a lack of signage from the road for new visitors.
The room was clean and spacious unlike other cheap rooms. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast amazing and super delicious..
Overall it will kill (win your heart)❤️
Bed very low and hard bedhead curved so pillows fall down behind. Breakfast advertised 17.50 when went they charged you for individual items which turns out very expensive. Parking only 7 cars free in underground carpark. Bar has awful draught beer if you like beer with lemon flavour your ok. Asked for sofa bed for other guest when arrived not set up or bedding. After paying alot of money for 1 night stay thought ot wd be good. Sorry but i would not book this hotel again

We stayed last week for 3 nights - bed breakfast and evening meal. We had a sea view room with balcony. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, polite & welcoming. The food was top quality - highlights were the hot, freshly cooked buffet breakfast, big fresh croissants and one of the best currys we've ever had (chicken narpiaza). The room was modern, well furnished, clean and very warm (appreciated considering it was freezing outside). The shower temperature could be a bit variable but the power was good. We sometimes got in the pub carpark, sometimes had to use the public one, but at just over a fiver for 24 hours and being just across the road, it wasn't a concern. Highly recommended.
Hotel location is very good, convenient to visit the Great Wall of Hadrian, visit the surrounding countryside, there is a small river flowing next to it, the scenery is very beautiful; the hotel is a bit old, but the maintenance is OK, the bathroom seems to have been renovated; the parking lot has sufficient parking spaces; Breakfast is good, but dinner is not all inclusive, it is your own order, within 25 pounds, more or less, less, this is a bit unaccustomed.
Staff were friendly and informative. Food was delicious although a limited selection.
Rooms were clean, tidy and had god ensuite facilities.
Would recommend for short stays for couples, friends, etc. not really suitable for families with young children.
The location is beautiful, in the middle of the countryside no other houses in sight and stunning grounds, just what we wanted. check in was quick and easy and staff were lovely. as you walk through the building its beautifully decorated. The room (119) was a little tired, marks on wall as you enter, cobweb on ceiling, wardrobe only had 1 mirror door not two and wasn't clean, 1 bulb out in bathroom, extractor fan not working, tiny bit of shower gel in bottle, had to ask for more, hole in carpet, and very threadbare in parts, windows not cleaned. Bed was comfy and clean and towels were clean. room was nice I just expected little more attention to cleaning and to maintenance. We used the pool area, again its tired, all the facilities are there and working fine just feels like it needs a lick of paint and good clean. We had good nights sleep, excellent blackout curtains. Breakfast was in beautiful room with views over the garden, service was excellent, the cold buffet was fine, nothing special all the basics, English breakfast was again ok, 1 of everything, was £48 for the two of us which felt a lot for what we were served. Overall a nice stay but certainly no WOW for your money.

GGuest UserA simply amazing stay. Firstly Ian and his team helped us remedy an error made by ******* on booking rooms at the Bowes hotel. Really friendly and interpersonal staff along with extensive knowledge of the area and further beyond particularly Hadrian's Wall path along with the Roman Museums and Forts. The food served was amazing aswell, better than some other independent restaurants, also the Thai-cakes are a must try! The room is clean and tidy with a great buffet breakfast to boot, they also make lunch for your journey ahead.
If you are staying at Bardon Mill, this is the place to be, just a walk away from the station that connects back to Newcastle. Friendly neighbourhood and locals that shares stories from their journeys and also fellow travellers from around the world mostly doing the Hadrian's Wall walk. I cannot fault this wonderful and cosy hotel and pub that is the Bowes Hotel!
MMandy_HWe had a wonderful birthday weekend at Langley Castle. The grounds are stunning, and the location is perfect for exploring the Northumberland countryside and coast. We stayed in the Castle Lodge, which was excellent.
Huge thanks to the staff, especially Aidan and Ellie, for being so welcoming and professional. Dinner at the Josephine Restaurant was a highlight—the birthday surprise (chocolate truffles!) for my partner was a very thoughtful touch. After a superb cooked-to-order breakfast and a guided tour the next day, we left feeling very impressed. Highly recommended!
GGuest UserComfortable room, nice selction of toiletries with pleasant scent. lovely food. Battlesteads was able to accommodate a pet dog ( pet pack also included) . Great selection for brealfast and tasty Ringtons coffee. This was a birthday break so only one night stay , Booked bed and breakfast, decided to add evening meal. The village of Wark is lovely to walk around, cross over bridge to football field one way and dog walk the other, weather helped make the stay as it was warm Autumn sunshine. Saw Grey Heron by the riverbank. Would recommend and would go again.
AAlex WheldonA pub and hotel all in one. We had the studio or 'flat' on the top floor. The room was comfortable, although a slightly unusual configuration with one internal bedroom having a lock on the door.
The main problem was the shower, which was either red hot or freezing cold, with low water pressure.
The B&B only included a continental breakfast which was fine. It cost a £9 upgrade to have a full English which we didn't try.
The pub was lively with a good atmosphere. Beds were reasonably comfortable.
CCatherine2068This is a great choice if planning to go to the Kielder Observatory as it’s about a 20 minute drive.
Our room was nice and functional. The biggest plus was the food. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and felt very upscale with great value for the price. The dining area is really cozy too and everyone was friendly.
The only small downside is that check out is relatively early at 10am if you join one of the late night sessions at the Observatory which finish at 01:30 am.

SShu YiLove the breakfast; and the size of room and attached bathroom. Room cleaninless can be further improved upon (e.g. fallen insects on window sills, dusty fan etc.). Amenities would have been better if there is greater public indoor area (e.g. restaurant/pub area) that is more open/flexible for guests to retreat to over extended hours (e.g. for usage of public wifi to connect to internet). Overall, it's a convenient site for a good night's rest!
NNigelFriendly pub with nice staff. Check in was pleasant and efficient. Room was adequate and better equipped than many hotels. I hated the tiny hanbasin for shaving. The floors were a little creaky, however this did not disturb my sleep!! Parking is a little hit and miss but managed with my itinerary lol. Excellent Real Ale in the friendly bar.
