"I chose this hotel after reading reviews carefully. It was a last-minute trip from Singapore to Malaysia with the kids, and Desaru, Johor Bahru, seemed like a good choice. Flight tickets for the summer holiday were more than triple the usual price, so traveling by land became our priority. I booked a car through Taobao and the hotel via Ctrip. First, let me share my impression of the hotel: it's HUGE! The facilities are quite comprehensive: restaurants, swimming pools, beach, kids' club, and a gym. We booked a sea-view room and were assigned to a third-floor room right by the sea, offering a full view of the beach. The room was approximately 40+ square meters. If you need extra disposable slippers, drinking water, or blankets, you can contact the front desk, and they respond very quickly. I noticed many reviews mentioned that the breakfast wasn't good and lacked variety, but personally, I thought it was decent. They had roti canai, egg pancakes (more Indonesian-style than Chinese), freshly cooked rice noodles, regular noodles, and rice rolls. There were also Western options like bread, cakes, and pastries. For drinks, they offered tea, coffee, pineapple juice, and orange juice. Oh, I forgot to mention, it's a five-star hotel."

"Fives Hotel was a pleasant surprise. I booked it at a very low rate with discounts, expecting a small boutique place, but was greeted by a proper hotel building instead. The room was compact but clean, comfortable, and had all the essentials. A nice bonus was the free fully automatic coffee machine in the lobby—perfect before an early tee time. For the price I paid, this was exceptional value and way better than expected. I’d happily book again for my next golf trip to Desaru."

"I was disappointed with my stay at Sheraton Desaru. Marriott is usually one of my preferred hotel brands because of the consistently high standards, so I regret choosing this property. Firstly, the reception staff were not well informed about the kids’ activities. I was told they would get back to me with the information, but I never received a call and had to follow up myself. Secondly, the room floor tiles were extremely slippery, even with just a small amount of water after swimming. Unfortunately, my toddler slipped and fell, which ruined our day. We requested a dry mop and an ice pack, but the ice pack never arrived, and instead of a dry mop, the room was mopped with a wet mop, leaving the floor even wetter. Thirdly, while we were at the swimming pool around 5 p.m., maintenance work was being carried out on the trees. Leaves and debris fell into the pool, but the workers did not clean them up, which affected the overall experience. Lastly, the hotel itself is relatively small, and we found there were very few activities!for kids available. After a while, there wasn’t much to do, making our stay rather boring. On a positive note, the breakfast was very good, and the nearby shops were convenient.
