Premier Inn Glasgow Braehead

Booked this hotel because I’d heard good things about their broccoli dishes. Imagine my surprise when we sat down for dinner we were promptly told, ‘we’ve nae broccoli’. This instantly put a dampener on things and what also put a dampener on things was the constant rain we had. It rained solid for a week. Now I get that’s not the Premier Inns fault as Scotland, especially the west of Scotland is known for being rather moist. Next night we were greeted by a cheery chappy called Kevin who again informed us of the lack of broccoli much too my chagrin. He kindly offered to plant some at the side of the hotel so we could get our broccoli fix but after survey o turf it was deemed to swampy for the seeds to take, plus the likely hood of it growing to an adult size portion in the two short weeks I was staying there was probably slim but the thought was there for sure. Broccoli aside, the hotel was comfortable, staff we mostly pleasant, shout out to Shannon who helped us out with the WiFi which was intermittent to say the least but they were transitioning to a new system by all accounts. The £15 I spent on ultimate wifi was a waste of time as i couldn’t log in. The last two days there was a rather unhelpful lady on the desk (hence the 4 stars) who didn’t seem bothered about my wifi situ and went on to say she had worked in many hotels and the wifi at this particular branch was probably the best. Fine if it let you log on I suppose, I told her I’d used 20gb of data on my phone data she wasn’t for moving, printing off a code would’ve been nice but even though I showed her my receipt she lacked compassion and muttered something about ******, which of course I’m not, I’ve had my fare share of birds let me tell thee. Big shout out to Ronnie behind the bar who was off to the big game, hopefully he enjoyed watching his team win 3-3 at the nearby football stadium. Think there was a parade of the ‘we won the second half cup’ the next day but I couldn’t attend due to work commitments. Back home now and have been overdosing on broccoli as it seems the local Aldi has so much of the green stuff, they sell it. Maybe Premier Inn should do their shopping there, they’d probably save themselves a few bob as I got a big back for 89p. Also big should out to Kevin for swapping my nights about.

Ok, it’s good to park for free. There are three beds in the hotel room. The bath is very good. The room is a bit old. But overall it’s OK.

I booked for 2 nights 15th- 17th September for leisure purposes. It was my 40th birthday and my husband had bought tickets to see Kevin Bridges at the Hydro next door. As a special occasion, we booked a Suite & decided to stay longer to make a nicer and relaxing stay. I booked via Booking.com earlier in the year. Extremely easy to get to the Hotel, easy to park & clear signage. Like the walkway into the hotel itself which kept us off the road and the parking tablets on Reception made the process very easy. (Not always a given in a City Centre Hotel - so appreciated) Check In- extremely efficient and staff were brilliant. Was disappointed to be notified that the swimming pool was closed & would be shut the following day from 1430. It was part of the reason I’d chosen the hotel over others in the area. Unfortunately got to the room and it wasn’t a suite. Went back down to Reception & issue was quickly resolved (thank goodness- over £200 per night for a standard double was not what I was quoted when first looking at room options) I received a drinks voucher for 2 due to inconvenience which I thought was a kind gesture. Suite- (1106) Liked the space & loved the views over the River Clyde & beyond. Carpets were stained in multiple areas, cupboards broken on all units, remote control for the TV in living space didn’t work, room service menu was filthy with food marks, and carpets were dirty under the furniture where I presume it was trickier to get a hoover although still very visible. There were bits of debris & dust under the unit in the living space. Even more off putting was opening a bottle of sparkling water provided and finding it had already been opened and someone had clearly taken a swig already. Bar- Decided to go and use our drinks vouchers in the Bar before getting ready for the show. Waited with staff not acknowledging us & talking whilst unloading the dishwasher. When eventually served, was advised I couldn’t have a cocktail due to the show next door. I have no idea of the rationale of this policy but didn’t want to question further. I recognise it’s not the bar staff that write the policies & didn’t want to cause any bad feeling. I asked for a large white wine instead & was then informed that I couldn’t have a large size with the drinks voucher & a medium was then promptly served. I would understand if I’d asked for a Dalmore 62 or a pint of Vodka, but I thought 75 ml extra of wine was tight & poor customer experience especially in the circumstances considering the voucher being received in the first place. I was then asked by the Bar Staff member “Let me guess, you got the voucher due to a problem with the room?” I agreed. “ Doesn’t surprise, this isn’t a good hotel” was the response. When sitting in the bar, I noticed other guests were clearly being served cocktails. I felt extremely put out by this & added to my overall bad impressions of the hotel. Next morning- breakfast in the club lounge- Helped myself to cereal, yo

Excellent value for money for three adults including breakfast. Good location, free parking , helpful reception staff. Clean warm room. Comfy bed. Shower and toilet in room. I took travel kettle as no coffee tea making facilities in room, but is available for self service in cafe near reception. Continental breakfast good variety pastries/ meats/ cheese as well as cereals/ toast. Would definitely stay here again.
Campanile Glasgow Secc - Hydro

Our trip to Glasgow was only to attend a concert at the SSE Hydro arena, so we booked our stay based upon that event. I found the Campanile Hotel online as one of the closest hotels surrounding the arena and the price was good compared to the other hotels, which was the main selling point. I read reviews that it was a ‘no frills’ hotel which was fine by me as we didn’t plan to be in the hotel other than to sleep and for breakfast. On arriving I knew we couldn’t check in until three but we arrived at one knowing there was a lounge area to hang out in until our room was ready. The bar didn’t open till half 2 which was slightly annoying and there wasn’t a great area for ‘lounging’ but fortunately we were informed by the person on the desk that a room may be available sooner if house keeping had finished, so we managed to get in to our room for half 1 which was good! I did unfortunately notice a group of girls trying to check in at half 1 after being told online they could pay for early check, only to find out on arrival that no such thing existed. Our room was basic but fine for what we needed the room for. Could have been cleaner but again, I didn’t expect much when I booked. The bed was comfy and the pillows were good. Considering we booked the hotel based on a concert it was a surprisingly quiet sleep once the event was over. We knew there could be a chance of other noisy guests but gone midnight the hotel quietened down and I had a good sleep. We were first down for breakfast at 7am. Breakfast was very basic, again, no frills but did the job with all the usual options of a hot breakfast buffet style and a few cereals/pastries. The hotel were happy to book us a taxi for our return to the airport which was useful. Going on my personal experience our trip to Glasgow and our stay at the Campanile was good, couldn’t have gone better BUT I was very aware of other visitors not having the same experience with a few visitors having issues checking in. The hotel couldn’t be better situated for events at the SSE so I would recommend based on location, but everything else I would mark as average at best.
