Old shabby hotel catering to visiting local tourists, mainly. If you're a foreigner, the drivers of the cabs waiting outside the Hotel will rip you off 20-30 yuan unless you pay attention to the meter and immediately yell at them in case of overcharge. (Almost) noone at the check-in desk speaks English unless you chance on a manager. There're two teenage consierge boys at the main entrance, who boss the incoming patrons around and tell them how to live. The restaurant prices are on a par with those at Shangri-La hotel, but with far fewer choices and lower in cooking quality. The only BIG advantage if you're a swimmer like myself: a former German ”Kaiser” swimming beach is right accross the road. It's now callled ”Bathing Beach 1.” Awesome for doing non-stop laps for an hour. And even then: you can easily get to the beach by metro from any other Qingdao hotel. Just get off at Huiquan Square (Line 3) and come out through Exit C.

It was our first time in Qingdao, and we really enjoyed our stay at 青岛海天大酒店 :) We initially booked a sea view room with twin beds for our trip. Upon reaching the hotel, we asked Crystal Zhao, our hotel concierge on whether a room with a king bed was available. She then readily helped us to arrange for a better room with a king bed. It might have been a coincidence, but the room number that Crystal assigned us also matched my birthday and that made it more special! Throughout the stay, crystal also checked in on us via WeChat daily, and arranged for gifts and fruits to be sent to our room. Service was top notch, the room was clean, and we had an amazing view. The video I watched was inconsistent with the actual stay. Maybe the videos I watched were all room type C. The room is indeed very large and suitable for takeout and gatherings. The key is that this feels like a homestay. The mattress hygiene and basic facilities are really a mess. We later bought a disposable four-piece set. The sea view is okay, but the large floor-to-ceiling windows are not worthy of the reputation of the Internet celebrity sea view. It is a bit far to walk to the first and second bathing beaches. The first bathing beach is relatively clean and it takes about 20+ minutes to walk there. The door password is set to 123456 for me, and we don’t know how to change it yet.

Very good hotel, excellent location, just a few steps out of the house to the sea. The shop manager and the clerk were very heart-warming. As soon as I arrived at the hotel, the manager took me to the beach. My original feeling of mourning was more than half healed. The three days in Qingdao happened to be fine, the air was clear, and the air was blown to take pictures. Suddenly, I felt that everything was all right and it would be fine.
