I stayed at the Arden for the UK Games Expo. Despite being rather pricey, it's very convenient to get to the NEC and Resorts World (10-15 minute walk). The leisure centre staff seemed unprofessional, but the receptionist and restaurant/bar staff seemed nice and friendly enough. Room was nearly spotless, aside from behind the TV that were slightly dusty. Our room didn't have a TV remote but a quick call to reception fixed that, they were very responsive. It was a nice comfortable room. I will say the food for dinner is exceptional and highly recommend it!
We chose this hotel, about a 30-minute drive from home, for a one-night stay so the kids could go swimming. They were so excited before we even left. After checking in, we rushed to the pool, only to be told that children weren't allowed after 6 PM and could only use it after 9 AM the next morning. However, check-out was at 11 AM, which left very little time.
So, I contacted Trip.com customer service to request a late check-out. During the first call, the hotel said they would charge £10 per hour for late check-out. We expressed our dissatisfaction, and thanks to Trip.com's proactive coordination, the hotel finally agreed to a free two-hour late check-out for both rooms. The kids had a fantastic time the next morning, which was a huge plus.
The hotel is newly renovated, and the overall facilities are quite good for a UK hotel. Dinner was also decent, though the steak was a bit disappointing. Luckily, the waitstaff were very friendly and didn't charge us for it. IHG's service philosophy was generally well-reflected.
However, the hotel seemed a bit understaffed. There were only two people at the front desk, so checking in required a bit of a wait. After check-in, no one showed us to our rooms, and the layout was a bit confusing, making it easy to get lost. I hope the hotel can improve in this area in the future. Also, it would be even more appealing if they could add some family-friendly room types.
We had a fantastic stay overnight. fabulous staff willing to help very caring and understanding very helpful all the time we was there. breakfast was amazing. I’m very wonderfully presented those everything you wanted and all nicely displayed and absolutely wonderfully clean and the staff was great so Wood come back thank you. Thank you for everything bye-bye.
Reasonable room rates, room clean , water hot in bath/shower-food was extremely tasty, and excellent value for money for both evening meal and breakfast.
Weather was hot and only improvement would have been to keep complimentary water/juice in foyer topped up as no cool water or drinks available in room.
Very convenient for early morning fl8ghts to stay overnight in a comfortable bed with clean modern facilities.
Loved the bathroom!
Greeted nicely.
The restaurant served tasty basics meals. Both bar and coffee drinks.
Didn't like the removal of menus and oth8er table items whilst I was eating. I know I was a late customer. But please, after a long travelling day, I just needed some relaxing enjoyment of dinner and coffee.
First of all, don't be like me and be confused between the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express Airport/NEC.
Rooms are comfortable and large.
I didn't try the restaurant but it was nice that the bar was still open at about 10 pm.
There's a free shuttle to the airport that I used this morning.
Location is excellent surrounded by trees and away from crowded and noisy areas. The receptionist was very professional and helpful regarding a mistake in my booking as my booking app didn't convey the complete details of my booking. They didn't have any idea that I have a 12 year old child added to my booking and also didn't get the information that I needed 2 adjacent rooms, but they managed to sort it out. Breakfast was great. There was no fridge in the room despite saying there was one during booking, but I didn't need it, so I ignored it. The worst part was the pool staff. They were rude and irogant.
Overall, my family and I enjoyed our stay and will definitely go there again if we visit Birmingham again.
Hotel nice as always, room cpuld fo with a bit of an update but not too bad. BUT it was my 13th stay within 9 months and I still have to always provide all address details from scratch although I am staying there every other week and provide thwm as well through the online checkin 🤦♂️
Overall experience was good, I have been a few times but the room we was in wasn’t the best the WiFi was weak so we had to connect to our phone data and the shower curtains were dirty definitely needed replacing.
It was an excellent stay at Scarman for me. The room I stayed in was clean, quiet and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel has a good range of food for breakfast and the selection of food for lunch & dinner was not huge but the food was delicious. I went to the University of Warwick to attend my son's graduation which the venue for the ceremony was within walking distance. To sum up, I am impressed with this hotel and will definitely stay here again.

Good
GGuest UserHotel is not in a bad location for trips out…
But the hotel needs a lot of improvements! The breakfast buffet you are left waiting for them to replenish food items , you have to keep asking staff where are the cups for tea as none replaced there was queues because of the location of the toaster, be careful if you ask for water to be replaced in room as I was charged but then got a refund after complaining..the executive room was good but I know the standard rooms are not great. The staff were good but there needs better organisation. The pool area dated and no set time they seem to pick and choose open close times. We had quite a few issues not all mentioned here which we told reception about we was not happy and noticed other customers complaining.. we would not stay again and certainly not 4 star 3 at most .. can’t comment on spa treatments as did not use but looking at the spa I’m sure there are better ones around. Golf course 9 hole in good condition but outside hotel area need tidying up bit scruffy.
GGuest UserUnfortunately, this was a disappointing stay. The reception, bar and restaurant are the best part of this hotel. The lifts were slow, corridors outside the room smelt awful and room was poor. There was extensive water damage to the bottom of the bathroom door, dated furniture and one of the two beds was sat on the floor in the middle despite there being wheels underneath each side. There was pink/red staining on the curtains and we couldn’t see out of the window due to the condensation. The decoration, plug sockets were good and there was a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, mini fridge (empty) and a safe. The shower room was well presented, there were plenty of pillows and towels. The room temperature was comfortable. More bar staff were needed at busy times and all staff encountered were pleasant and friendly. Strange security late at night but understood why this was needed.
NNell2025Room is great size and has all the basic amenities you'll need in a three star hotel. It's clean and definitely updated compared to how it used to look years ago. Unfortunately, there's no AC, bed is a bit smaller compared to standard hotel. Bathroom was leaking when showering. Tap needs greasing as it was a bit stiff to lift. W/C flush needs fixing so it flushes properly. WiFi was very slow and intermittent. The reception area as well as the building exterior unfortunately still looks tired and dated still after so many years. I wish they'd repaint it as it's next to the bus station. Also, the breakfast food were overcooked. Bacon, chewy, hash brown looks likes cooked in used oil as it's so brown rather than golden colour. The brown bread taste bitter. The coffee wasn't nice either. I think it's time that Britannia invest in modernising their Coventry City centre chain.
.
GGuest UserThe aircon system was totally sucks, it happened to numbers of rooms, even we changed the room it wasn’t help. The staff told me that the maintenance can only be conducted on weekdays (our stays in during weekends) !!!! We can’t breath while we were sleeping, no choice but to open the windows. Our room is facing to the Main Street with heavy traffic even siren sounds from police car. Luckily we just stay for 1 night. Once is enough !

Very Good
GGuest UserAfter a brutal time in hospital I was discharged. I wanted a night to rest recover and relax. Upon arrival I was told that work was being carried out and i can expect to hear noise from 9am. This was very disappointing to be told when checking in. It would have been preferred to been informed before I had parted with any money. I wasn’t given an option to cancel my booking without paying the charge of the full room .
The room was not fully cleaned and there was some orangey oil looking spills left from the previous is booking. The housekeeping had not cleaned it up and placed towels in front of the spill in the wardrobe. This was disgusting. The towels were not fresh and had hair and bits of debris over it.
I had gone to the shop and upon arrival the night reception wouldn’t let me in without declaring my name and room number due to security (understandable). But this infringed on my safety as other people were loitering outside the hotel and Could hear everything. A couple walked in following behind me into the hotel and I declared to the reception I didn’t know them. This made me feel very uncomfortable, as human trafficking is on the rise, I think better methods of verification can be found that is safe for the hotel and guests.
After being woken up at 9am from the workers, I tried to get some more sleep.
The housekeeping lady charged into the room without knocking at 11:30am when I had not checked out and i was due to check out at 12pm.
This was a massive shock and sent me into a panic attack. She left and then I could hear her laughing and joking with the other housekeeping outside of the room. My stress and distress was exacerbated as I am unable to lock my room door from inside which means people can still enter if the pin is known or if they have a keycard. I have stayed here once before and it was nice but this time was awful. The reception were lovely though. My right to privacy and safety was completely disregarded through negligence, improper training and inappropriate conduct. I am absolutely outraged to say the least. I paid to arrive for a relaxing time…. Only to leave more stressed than I arrived.
GGuest UserThe bathroom had molds ,the room was not clean, I told the receptionist that I was unable to sleep in the room because it was dirty but they didn’t do anything about it, the curtains were also dirty
GGuest UserGood location close to M42, free parking onsite, easy access to reception check in was straightforward lifts to all floors and the room was perfect clean and warm.
self service for buffet breakfast good variety for every taste. would recommend this hotel to friends and family.
GGuest User5 stars. Exceptionally clean room, outstanding staff and an unbeatable location. Everything you need is within walking distance and the surrounding shops and amenities make it the perfect spot. Friendly people throughout and an altogether excellent stay. Highly recommended.
SSfrixelReally unsatisfied with the cleanliness of the room, there was a huge amount of dust anywhere that I was sneezing continuously.
Also, the most disgusting thing were the bedsheets, stained with yellow spots! I asked for a new set of bedsheets and the reception gave them to me and I had to put them on, because there was no one of the cleaning team to do it.
Very very very unsatisfied.
GGuest UserThe hotel is conveniently located nearby the new street station which is excellent. But the rooms is small and old, the bed sheets look grey (tho clean). The mattress is also old. It is okay to stay just 1 night (if you don’t have other choice and budget) but not more than that.
