The Egyptian Museum (Museum of Egyptian Antiquities), located beside Liberation Square in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, was designed and built in 1858 by the renowned French archaeologist and 'father of the Egyptian Museum,' Mariette, and officially opened to the public in 1902. It is one of the world's famous museums. The museum houses over 300,000 historical artifacts from the Pharaonic era of ancient Egypt to the 6th century AD, of which 63,000 items are on display, approximately one-fifth of the total collection.
